If it is said to be free from attachment, then how is it that the young Shakya, with his handsome appearance, fainted and fell to the ground due to attachment upon seeing him? When they began to reproach, the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, as before, spoke of the cause and course of this event, and of convening the monastic community of monks at this time, and so on. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, knowingly commit offenses, and so on, also as before. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked Nye-ga. Nye-ga, is it true that you, from a non-relative bhikkhuni, wait by the roadside, enter the village for alms, and then take food with your own hands and eat it? Venerable one, yes. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked, saying, 'This is not the conduct of a renunciant, it is not in accordance, it is not permissible, it is not in accordance with the rules, and such things should not be done by a renunciant.' Then, after rebuking in various ways, the Blessed One said to the monks: 'Monks, therefore, you should truly see the ten benefits and listen to the Vinaya in terms of taming.'

Where are the main roads, streets, crossroads, and junctions? "Action" means from there. "Food" means the five kinds of food. "With one's own hand" means taking it in hand with the hand. "Having taken" means giving and receiving, putting into strength. "Eating or drinking" means swallowing into the throat. "That Bhikshu" means whichever Bhikshu it is. "Having gone to the outer monastery" means having gone to the temple outside the city. "To the Bhikshus" means to whichever Bhikshus are seated there. "Venerable one, the place where I am to be blamed" means that which is to be blamed. "Unreasonable" means not in accordance with the rules. "To be confessed individually" means to be confessed. "Occurred" means the downfall has occurred. "That Dharma" means that which is not Dharma, spoken of in the sound of Dharma. "Individually Confesses" means confesses. "Should be confessed individually" means should be confessed. "This Dharma is to be confessed individually" means this Dharma is to be confessed, therefore it is said to be confessed individually. How does it become a downfall? If a Bhikshu, regarding a Bhikshuni who is not a relative, sitting on the main road, going into the city for alms, the Bhikshu thinks she is not a relative, takes food, takes it with his own hand, and eats or drinks, it will become a sin to be confessed individually. For a non-relative, eating food with doubt in mind, taking it with one's own hand, and eating or drinking, it will become a sin to be confessed individually. If a Bhikshu, regarding a Bhikshuni who is a relative, sitting on the main road, going into the city for alms, the Bhikshu thinks she is not a relative, takes food, takes it with his own hand, and eats or drinks, it will become a misdeed. For a relative, eating food with doubt in mind, taking it with one's own hand, and eating or drinking, it will become a misdeed. For the beginner, and the insane, and the mentally disturbed, and those afflicted by feelings, there is no downfall. The sin of individually confessing for taking food from a Bhikshuni, the first is completed. Vinaya-vibhaṅga, Volume Eighty-one, Buddha Bhagavan in Jeta Grove in Sravasti.

He was staying at Anathapindika's monastery in Jeta Grove. At that time, there was a terrible famine, and it was difficult for monks to find food by begging. Even parents found it difficult to think about giving food to their own children, let alone to beggars. The group of six monks, in the morning, having put on their robes, and carrying their bowls and Dharma robes, went to Shravasti to beg for alms. Some received food, and some did not. They were distressed by hunger, and went to the group of twelve monks. The group of twelve said, "Please be seated, noble ones," and prepared seats. After they were seated, the group of twelve paid homage to their feet, and sat before them, saying, "Are you well, noble ones? How are you living here, sisters? We are distressed by hunger. If that is so, noble ones, please come tomorrow, and we will offer you food." The sisters said, "If you give tomorrow, who will give the day after?" The noble ones said, "We ourselves will offer." The sisters said, "It is not possible to live like that. Like this, wherever the Buddha and the Sangha are invited, you should be the attendants there, and give us food again and again, so that we can survive." The coarse-joyful mother said, "Is it permissible to do that, noble ones?" The sisters said, "It is very good, very good. Who forbids it? Where is it forbidden?" They said, "If it is permissible, noble ones, we will not err, we will do it that way." They said "Aroga" and left. Soon, a householder invited the Buddha and the Sangha to another house for a midday meal, and the Sangha entered. The Blessed One sat on the prepared seat and began to receive alms. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, sit on the prepared seat and accept alms for five reasons: wanting to establish mindfulness within, wanting to teach the Dharma to the gods, wanting to visit the sick, wanting to understand the situation of the dwelling, and wanting to establish the basis of training for the disciples who are to be tamed. In this case, the Buddha, the Blessed One, wanted to establish the basis of training for the disciples who are to be tamed, and therefore sat on the prepared seat and accepted alms.
