There is no falling into transgression due to the senses. To allow entry into the ranks without having reached the proper level, and to eat without preventing it, should be confessed separately, this is the end of the second. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Vaishali, at the great storied house by the Monkey Tank. When the general Lion saw the truths before the Bhagavan, at that time he took a portion and spoke these words of the supreme elephant, and truly proclaimed the lion's roar in the midst of the assembly. From this day forward, the doors of the naked ones, the naked mothers, the disciples of the naked ones, and the mothers of the disciples of the naked ones are closed. The doors of the Bhagavan's disciples, the monks, the nuns, the laymen, and the laywomen are opened, and he proclaimed that all agricultural boundaries are without fault, and he announced it completely. He was endowed with faith, good and with a virtuous mind, and there was nothing that he did not offer or give away to the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha, or the pleasing monks. Because he offered and gave away in this way, his enjoyment diminished and was completely exhausted, and he came to a complete end. At that time, the venerable Shariputra and the great Maudgalyayana were traveling and went to Vaishali, and the general Lion invited them to a meal at another house, and as he himself went to the market to prepare food for them, he was seen by the naked ones. Those knowledgeable ones said, "When the general Lion had faith in us, everything was perfect for him. Now that he has faith in the Shakyaputra ascetics, he has no access to them and no food, and he himself is doing the work of the house." When they began to reproach him, the monks asked the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan said, "Monks, you should give the precepts of training to the general Lion and others like him. It should be given in this way: after arranging the dwelling place, strike the bell and truly admonish the monks with words of inquiry, so that the entire Sangha may dwell in harmony."

At that time, a bhikkhu performed the sole act of supplication, "Venerable Sangha, please listen. General Lion is faithful and has good and virtuous thoughts. He has not failed to offer or completely give to the Buddha, the Dharma, the Sangha, or any agreeable bhikkhu. He has offered and given in such a way that his wealth is diminished, exhausted, and completely depleted. If it is the Sangha's time and permissible, please grant that the Sangha bestow the training precepts upon General Lion. This is the supplication. To whomever the Sangha has given the training precepts, a bhikkhu should not go to his house, should not use his seat, should not eat alms food, and should not teach the Dharma." The Blessed One declared, "To whomever the Sangha has given the training precepts, a bhikkhu should not go to his house, should not use his seat, should not eat alms food, and should not teach the Dharma." The Venerable Shariputra and Maudgalyayana, who had been previously invited, did not go to his house either. Then, General Lion prepared food and went to where the Venerable Shariputra and the great Maudgalyayana were, and upon arriving, he bowed his head at the feet of the Venerable Shariputra and Maudgalyayana and said, "Venerable ones, if you would allow me to borrow your parasol, please know that now is the time." The two said, "Householder, the Sangha will not give you the training precepts." He said, "Venerable ones, I invited you two previously, please come." The two said, "Householder, then we will inform the Blessed One." After the two had fully informed the Blessed One of the matter, the Blessed One declared, "Whoever was previously invited may eat, and there should be no regret about this." The two went to General Lion's house, and the venerable ones and the group of six bhikkhus saw the two and said, "Where are you two going? To General Lion's house. Did the Sangha not give him the training precepts?"

Because of giving to where it is given, we two have long been invited as guests. If that is so, we two have been invited as guests even earlier. When General Siṃha saw the truth in the presence of the Blessed One, he seized one part and spoke words like a great elephant king, and truly proclaimed the lion's roar in the assembly: "From now on, the doors of the naked ascetics and the naked female ascetics, and the disciples of the naked ascetics and the female disciples of the naked female ascetics are closed. The doors of the Blessed One's disciples, monks and nuns, and laymen and laywomen are opened," thus proclaiming, therefore we two have been invited as guests even earlier. The two of them went without saying a word, and those people followed behind them, and General Siṃha, seeing that many monks were coming, generated great joy and distributed to the monks whatever the family needed. After they had eaten and left, his children began to beg for food, and he said: "Children, distribute to the monks whatever the family needs, and wait for a while until others come to do it." Hearing them begin to cry, a few monks said: "Why do the monks go to the homes of those who are restrained by the monastic precepts of the Saṅgha, and without being invited as guests, prepare and take food with their own hands to eat?" They scolded, threw, and reviled. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, regarding this event and this origin, and at this time, convened the monastic Saṅgha of monks, and so on, as before. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, knowingly commit offenses, and so on, also as before. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked the group of six: "Monks, you go to the homes of those who are restrained by the monastic precepts of the Saṅgha, and without being invited as guests, prepare and take food with your own hands to eat."
