Then they began to enter the great ocean. Then those merchants thought to themselves: "O wise ones, it is difficult for us who are entering the great ocean to know for sure that we will cross over safely and comfortably. We who are accumulating wealth should each, individually, take swimming aids for the sake of poverty and enter the great ocean." Some of us should carry salmali planks, some should carry cotton pillows, some should carry gourd boats, and some should carry sheepskin rafts. Then those wealth-accumulating people, having considered in this way individually, each took swimming aids for the sake of poverty. Some took salmali planks, some took cotton pillows, some took gourd boats, and some took sheepskin rafts, and entered the great ocean. As they were entering the great ocean, the makara fish destroyed the ocean-going ship. When they destroyed the ocean-going ship, each of them rode on the swimming aids they had brought for the sake of poverty, like this: some rode on salmali planks, some rode on cotton pillows, some rode on gourd boats, and some rode on sheepskin rafts, and floated on the water. Due to the ripening of their karma, a wind arose from the north and drove them to the southern shore. On Copper Island (Zangs gling), there lived rakshasa women called Crane Maidens, who deceived the shipwrecked merchants with sweet words and joyful appearances. They had two banners, one corresponding to a place of joy and one corresponding to a place of poverty. When they began to wave the banner corresponding to a place of joy, they said: "Brothers and sisters, because the banner corresponding to a place of joy is waving, the ocean-going ships of the merchants of Jambudvipa have been destroyed by makara fish, do not miss them, go and search!" And they began to search on the seashore. When they saw a large crowd of people swimming in various ways, having seen them, they manifested their beautiful forms.

Please be the continent for those of us who have no continent! Please be the protector for those of us who have no protector! Please be the refuge for those of us who have no refuge! Please be the friend for those of us who have no friend! These are your places for food, places for drink, places for clothes, places for dwelling, delightful gardens, delightful forests, delightful ponds, and many precious things of Jambudvipa, such as: jewels, pearls, lapis lazuli, white conch shells, corals, silver, gold, the essence of stones, turquoise, red ones, right-spiraling conch shells, etc. Please come here and play with us, rejoice, and enjoy happiness!
