祈请地神！如果具足何者，那么具有信心的善男子或善女子，无论是行走、安住、睡眠或不眠，都能恒常不断地增长福德，并且不断地产生福德，由物质所生的福德之业，其基础极其果大、利益大、显现大、广大呢？世尊对此开示说：可以策励。这七种策励是，如果具足何者，那么具有信心的善男子或善女子，无论是行走、安住、睡眠或不眠，都能恒常不断地增长福德，并且不断地产生福德，由物质所生的福德之业，其基础极其果大、利益大、显现大、广大呢？这七者是什么呢？策励是，如果具有信心的善男子或善女子，向四方僧众的僧团供养园林，这是具足何种策励，能使具有信心的善男子或善女子，无论是行走、安住、睡眠或不眠，都能恒常不断地增长福德，并且不断地产生福德，由物质所生的福德之业，其基础极其果大、利益大、显现大、广大呢？这是第一种。另一种策励是，如果具有信心的善男子或善女子，在那园林中建造经堂，这是具足何种策励，能使具有信心的善男子或善女子，无论是行走、安住、睡眠或不眠，都能恒常不断地增长福德，并且不断地产生福德，由物质所生的福德之业，其基础极其果大、利益大、显现大、广大呢？这是第二种。另一种策励是，如果具有信心的善男子或善女子，在那经堂中供养住所，例如：床、小床、带内胎的坐垫、毛毯、枕头、靠垫等，这是具足何种策励，能使具有信心的善男子或善女

If one possesses what qualities, a faithful son or daughter of good family, whether walking, staying, sleeping, or not sleeping, will constantly and continuously increase merit, and constantly generate merit? What is the basis for the act of merit arising from material possessions, which has extremely great fruit, great benefit, great manifestation, and great expansion? The Blessed One replied to this: It is possible to encourage. These seven encouragements are: If one possesses what qualities, a faithful son or daughter of good family, whether walking, staying, sleeping, or not sleeping, will constantly and continuously increase merit, and constantly generate merit? What is the basis for the act of merit arising from material possessions, which has extremely great fruit, great benefit, great manifestation, and great expansion? What are these seven? The encouragement is: If a faithful son or daughter of good family offers a garden to the Sangha of monks from the four directions, what kind of encouragement is this that enables a faithful son or daughter of good family, whether walking, staying, sleeping, or not sleeping, to constantly and continuously increase merit, and constantly generate merit? What is the basis for the act of merit arising from material possessions, which has extremely great fruit, great benefit, great manifestation, and great expansion? This is the first. Another encouragement is: If a faithful son or daughter of good family builds a temple in that very garden, what kind of encouragement is this that enables a faithful son or daughter of good family, whether walking, staying, sleeping, or not sleeping, to constantly and continuously increase merit, and constantly generate merit? What is the basis for the act of merit arising from material possessions, which has extremely great fruit, great benefit, great manifestation, and great expansion? This is the second. Another encouragement is: If a faithful son or daughter of good family offers lodging in that very temple, such as: beds, small beds, cushions with inner tubes, blankets, pillows, bolsters, etc., what kind of encouragement is this that enables a faithful son or daughter of good family

Another encouragement is that a faithful son or daughter of good family makes offerings in that temple that are long-term and conducive to harmonious conditions. What kind of encouragement is this? A faithful son or daughter of good family, whether walking, staying, sleeping, or not sleeping, constantly and continuously increases merit, and constantly generates merit. This is the basis of meritorious actions arising from material things, and is the fourth kind that is extremely fruitful, extremely beneficial, extremely manifest, and extremely vast. Another encouragement is that a faithful son or daughter of good family gives alms to those who come suddenly and those who are about to leave. What kind of encouragement is this? A faithful son or daughter of good family, whether walking, staying, sleeping, or not sleeping, constantly and continuously increases merit, and constantly generates merit. This is the basis of meritorious actions arising from material things, and is the fifth kind that is extremely fruitful, extremely beneficial, extremely manifest, and extremely vast. Another encouragement is that a faithful son or daughter of good family gives alms to the sick and those who care for the sick. What kind of encouragement is this? A faithful son or daughter of good family, whether walking, staying, sleeping, or not sleeping, constantly and continuously increases merit, and constantly generates merit. This is the basis of meritorious actions arising from material things, and is the sixth kind that is extremely fruitful, extremely beneficial, extremely manifest, and extremely vast. Another encouragement is that a faithful son or daughter of good family, whether there is a strong wind, or bad things happen, or it rains, or a cold wind blows, whatever happens, when there is a strong wind, or bad things happen, or it rains, or a cold wind blows, offers rice porridge or yogurt to the Sangha.
