With meaningful teachings, He truly reveals, truly causes to be received, truly praises, and truly makes them rejoice. The Dharma-laden teachings previously given by the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are as follows: teachings on generosity, teachings on ethics, teachings on heaven, the faults of savoring desires, defilement, purification, renunciation, the benefits of solitude, and extensively teaches the dharmas that are in accordance with the aspects of purification. When the Bhagavat sees that they are content in mind, soft in mind, joyful in mind, without obscurations in mind, and endowed with the capacity to understand all the excellent Dharma teachings, then the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, extensively teach the excellent Dharma teachings, which are the Four Noble Truths: suffering, the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path. For example, just as a clean, spotless, and pliable cloth readily absorbs dye when placed in it, similarly, the householder Gadhana, while sitting on that very seat, realized the Four Noble Truths: suffering, the origin of suffering, the cessation of suffering, and the path. Then, the householder Gadhana, having seen the Dharma, attained the Dharma, understood the Dharma, reached the depths of the Dharma, transcended doubt, transcended uncertainty, no longer relying on others, not being led by others, and having attained fearlessness in the face of all dharmas, rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, and, with his palms joined in reverence, turned towards the Bhagavat and said to Him, "Venerable One, I have entered! Venerable One, I have entered! Venerable One, I go for refuge to the Bhagavat, the Dharma, and the Sangha of monks. May the Venerable One accept me as a lay follower. From this day forward, for as long as I live, I will sincerely and faithfully take refuge." Then, the Bhagavat to the householder

He spoke to Gadangchen: "Householder, what is your name?" "Venerable, my name is Norsang, but because King Sharpa called me Dang Le, people call me Householder Dangchen." "Bhagavan, please go to कौशाम्बी (kauśāmbī). I will offer robes, alms, lodging, causes of illness, and medicine to the Bhagavan and the Sangha of monks for as long as I live." "Householder, is there a monastery in कौशाम्बी (kauśāmbī)?" "Venerable, there is not." "Householder, monks desire to go, travel, and stay where there is a monastery." "Bhagavan, please go, and I will do whatever it takes to have a monastery in कौशाम्बी (kauśāmbī), and to make it so that the monks can also go, travel, and stay there." The Bhagavan did not say anything to Householder Gadangchen, thus granting permission. Then, Householder Gadangchen, knowing that the Bhagavan's silence meant permission, bowed his head to the Bhagavan's feet, and after leaving the Bhagavan's presence, he did and accomplished everything that needed to be done in Shravasti. Then he went again to where the Bhagavan was, and upon arriving, bowed his head to the Bhagavan's feet, and said this to the Bhagavan: "Bhagavan, please grant me some monks as companions, and I will, together with them, have a monastery built for the Bhagavan." The Bhagavan thought, "Who are the disciples of Householder Gadangchen and his entourage, and the assembly of people living in कौशाम्बी (kauśāmbī)?" He saw that they were the disciples of the monk Great Exhorter. Then the Bhagavan spoke to the venerable Great Exhorter: "Exhorter, consider Householder Gadangchen and his entourage, and the assembly of people living in कौशाम्बी (kauśāmbī)." The venerable Great Exhorter, without saying anything to the Bhagavan, accepted. Then, after that night had passed, the venerable Great Exhorter put on his lower robe in the morning, and taking his bowl and robes,
