།ཁྱིམ་བདག་མགོན་མེད་ཟས་སྦྱིན་གྱིས་སངས་རྒྱས་ལ་སོགས་པ་དགེ་སློང་གི་དགེ་འདུན་གདུགས་ཚོད་གསོལ་ནས་ཁྱིམ་པ་དག་ཟན་སྦྱིན་པར་བརྩམས་ཏེ། དེས་ཁྱིམ་པ་གཞན་དག་ལ་ནི་ཟས་བསོད་པ་བྱིན། བྲམ་ཟེ་དེ་ལ་ནི་ངན་པ་བྱིན་པ་དང་། དེས་དེ་ལ་སྨྲས་པ། ཁྱིམ་བདག་རབ་ཏུ་བྱུང་བ་རྣམས་ནི་བསླབ་པ་ཡང་དག་པར་བླངས་པ་ཡིན་པས་རེ་ཞིག་འདི་དག་ལ་ནི་བསོད་པ་སྦྱིན་པར་རིགས་ན། བདག་ཅག་ཁྱིམ་པ་བསླབ་པ་ཡང་དག་པར་མ་བླངས་པར་འདྲ་ན་ཅིའི་ཕྱིར་ཁྱིམ་པ་གཞན་དག་ལ་ནི་ཟས་བསོད་པ་སྦྱིན་ལ་བདག་ལ་ནི་ཟས་ངན་པ་སྦྱིན། དེས་དེ་ལ་སྨྲས་པ། བྲམ་ཟེ་ཁྱིམ་པ་འདི་དག་ཀྱང་བསླབ་པ་ཡང་དག་པར་བླངས་པ་ཡིན་ཏེ། འདི་དག་གིས་ཀྱང་ཡན་ལག་བརྒྱད་དང་ལྡན་པའི་གསོ་སྦྱོང་བླངས་སོ། །དེས་དེ་ལ་སྨྲས་པ། ཁྱིམ་བདག་གལ་ཏེ་བདག་གིས་ཀྱང་ཡན་ལག་བརྒྱད་དང་ལྡན་པའི་གསོ་སྦྱོང་ལེན་ན་བདག་ལ་ཡང་ཟས་བསོད་པ་སྦྱིན་ནམ། དེས་དེ་ལ་སྨྲས་པ་སྦྱིན་ནོ། །དེས་ཡན་ལག་བརྒྱད་དང་ལྡན་པའི་གསོ་སྦྱོང་བླངས་པ་དང་། དེ་ནས་ཁྱིམ་བདག་མགོན་མེད་ཟས་སྦྱིན་གྱིས་དེ་ཟས་བསོད་པས་ཚིམ་པར་བྱས་ནས་དེས་ཟོས་ཏེ་འཕགས་པ་དང་། ཁྱིམ་བདག་མགོན་མེད་ཟས་སྦྱིན་གྱིས་སྨྲས་པ། བྲམ་ཟེ་ཡུད་ཙམ་ཞིག་སྡོད་ཅིག་དང་སྐོམ་འོང་བར་འགྱུར་རོ། །དེས་སྐོམ་ འཐུངས་ཏེ་སོང་བ་དང་། ཉི་མ་ནུབ་པའི་དུས་ལ་བབ་ནས་མཉན་ཡོད་དང་ཧ་ཅང་མི་རིང་བ་ན་རི་བྲགས་ཤིག་ཡོད་པ་དེར་བྲམ་ཟེའི་ཁྱིམ་ཞིག་ཏུ་གནས་པ་དང་། བྲམ་ཟེ་དེས་དེ་ལ་སྨྲས་པ། བྲམ་ཟེ་ཟན་ཟོ་ཞིག །དེས་སྨྲས་པ། ཁོ་བོས་ཟན་མི་ཟའོ། །དེས་སྨྲས་པ། ཅིའི་ཕྱིར། དེས་སྨྲས་པ། ཁོ་བོ་དགེ་སྦྱོང་གཽ་ཏ་མ་ལ་ཡན་ལག་བརྒྱད་དང་ལྡན་པའི་གསོ་སྦྱོང་བླངས་སོ། །དེས་དེ་ལ་སྨྲས་པ། བྲམ་ཟེ་གལ་ཏེ་རེ་ཞིག་ཟ་ན་དེ་ལྟ་ན་ལེགས། གལ་ཏེ་མི་ཟ་ན་ཁོ་བོའི་ཁྱིམ་དུ་གནས་པར་མི་བྱའོ། །དེས་དུས་མ་ཡིན་པར་ཟོས་ནས་གསོ་སྦྱོང་རལ་ལོ། །རི་བྲགས་ན་གནས་པའི་བྲམ་ཟེ་གང་ཡིན་པ་གང་གིས་ཡན་ལག་བརྒྱད་དང་ལྡན་པའི་གསོ་སྦྱོང་བླངས་ནས་དྲལ་བ་དེ་ནི་ཁོ་བོ་ཡིན་ཏེ། ཁོ་བོས་ཡན་ལག་བརྒྱད་དང་ལྡན་པའི་གསོ་སྦྱོང་བླངས་ཏེ། ཐམས་ཅད་མ་དྲལ་ན་ཁོ་བོ་སུམ་བཅུ་རྩ་གསུམ་པའི་ལྷ་རྣམས་ཀྱི་ནང་དུ་སྐྱེ་བར་འགྱུར་བ་ཞིག་ན། ཁོ་བོས་ཡན་ལག་བརྒྱད་དང་ལྡན་པའི་གསོ་སྦྱོང་བླངས་ནས་དུས་མ་ཡིན་པར་ཟོས་ཏེ། In the past, we also relied on such trees to build dams with water, and it would be good if we could succeed a little bit. So they went there and began to pray. Wise ones, is there a god, a dragon, a yaksha, a garuda, a gandharva, a human, or what, residing in this land and this tree? Whatever great belly-crawler dwells there, please grant food and drink to us five hundred ascetics who are suffering from hunger and thirst. Just then, a voice came from the tree: Wise ones, not far from here, there is a pond, and beside the pond there is a tree, and under the tree there is a bag full of rice. Take food and drink from there, and enjoy the food and drink as you wish. So they went. Soon, they saw a pond, which was adorned with swans, mandarin ducks, and wild ducks, and it was very beautiful. There was also a tree beside the pond, and under the tree there was a pile of rice with various vegetables. They took a bath there, ate food, drank water, filled their water bottles with water, enjoyed the food and drink as they wished, and said auspicious words, and then they left. They thought in their hearts: Wise ones, we saw such a wonderful sight, but we didn't ask who he was and why he was born here. It was our negligence. Come, let's go back and ask. So they all gathered together, returned to that tree, sat down and said: Is there a god, a dragon, a yaksha, a garuda, a gandharva, a human, or what, residing in this tree? Whatever great belly-crawler dwells there, who has caused us, who are walking on the path of solitude, to suffer harm, fear, and unease, and even face death, but has also allowed us to drink water with eight qualities and has satisfied us with food? Please tell us who you are and why you were born here. Just then, a voice came from the tree: Wise ones, the people of Jambudvipa are hard to believe, so even if I tell you who I am and why I was born here, you will not believe it.

If I also take the eight-limbed uposatha, will you give me food as alms? He said to him, "I will give." He took the eight-limbed uposatha. Then the householder Anathapindika satisfied him with food alms, and he ate and stood up. The householder Anathapindika said, "Brahmin, wait a moment, you will be thirsty." He drank water and left. When the time of sunset arrived, not far from Shravasti, there was a mountain cliff where he stayed in a Brahmin's house. That Brahmin said to him, "Brahmin, eat food." He said, "I do not eat food." He said, "Why?" He said, "I have taken the eight-limbed uposatha for the Shramana Gautama." He said to him, "Brahmin, if you eat for a while, that would be good. If you do not eat, you will not be allowed to stay in my house." He ate at the wrong time and the uposatha was broken. The Brahmin who lived on the mountain cliff, who took the eight-limbed uposatha and then broke it, that is me. I took the eight-limbed uposatha, and if I had not broken it completely, I would have been born among the gods of the Thirty-three. I took the eight-limbed uposatha, and because I ate at the wrong time and broke the uposatha, I was born among the gods of the Four Great Kings and live on this tree. Therefore, the gods of the Four Great Kings' lineage know me as the son of the gods, with great magical powers, great strength, and called 'Uposatha Breaker.'" །།Vinaya-vibhanga.
