The deeds done and accumulated will mature on the aggregates, realms, and sources that have been taken. Even if deeds pass through hundreds of eons, they will not be destroyed; when the assembly and time are met, they will ripen into fruits for sentient beings. Monks, in the past, in a certain rocky place, there lived a householder who took a wife from the same lineage and played with her, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness. While playing, rejoicing, and enjoying happiness, a boy was born. Again, while playing, rejoicing, and enjoying happiness, a girl was born, and they raised them both to adulthood. When girls of the same age as that girl were being sought in marriage, no one came to ask for that girl. In times when Buddhas do not appear, some solitary Buddhas, like rhinos, with compassion for the inferior and poor, delighting in remote dwellings, become worthy of offerings in the world and appear in the world. Once, a solitary Buddha was wandering and came to that rocky place, and that girl, after sweeping the house, threw the broom from a dusty place, which happened to hit the head of the solitary Buddha who was begging for alms. The girl saw that she had hit him, but did not feel any remorse. Coincidentally, that day someone came to ask for her hand in marriage, and the husband asked her, 'What did you do today that someone came to ask for you?' She replied, 'Today I threw the broom at the head of a renunciate.' The husband smiled. That girl told the other girls, and they told others, so that any girl in the world who was not being sought in marriage, if she threw a broom at the head of a solitary Buddha, would be sought in marriage. In this way, such a sinful view arose. Because the great beings feared disrespect, that solitary Buddha left that rocky place, and they began to throw at the sages who possessed five kinds of clairvoyance, and the sages also avoided them, and they began to throw at their parents. In that rocky place, there lived a couple of householders who possessed virtuous qualities, and they both said, 'Wise ones, do not destroy the holy.'

This increase of unwholesome Dharma should be averted. Thus, the two of them averted and abandoned it. Monks, the girl who threw the whisk on the Pratyekabuddha at that time and in that era is this King Crested. The assembly of beings dwelling on that rocky mountain is this assembly of beings dwelling in the city of Sound-Proclamation. Because of the maturation of the karma of throwing whisks on the Pratyekabuddha, sages, and parents, they were swallowed by the earth. The two householders who averted (the disaster) are the chief ministers Heruka and Bhiruka. Because of the maturation of that karma, they fled. The girl's brother who smiled is the great monk Katyayana. Because of the maturation of the karma of his smiling, he was covered by the earth. If the great monk Katyayana had not realized such a collection of qualities, then the great monk Katyayana would also have been swallowed by the earth and would have suffered unrighteously. Monks, thus, the maturation of entirely black karmas is entirely black, and the maturation of entirely white karmas is also entirely white. The maturation of mixed karmas is also mixed. Monks, therefore, having abandoned entirely black and mixed karmas, one should strive for entirely white karmas. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anathapindada. In Kausambi, there was a householder named Wealthy Good, who was rich, had much wealth, and great enjoyment. His house was near the palace of King Sharpa, and he would rise early in the morning to inspect all the work. Because he had the sound of wealth, King Sharpa knew from the sound that he had a deposit of a hundred thousand gold pieces. After some time, King Sharpa was in a place of business and said to the ministers: Wise ones, the householder Wealthy Good rises early every day and goes to inspect all the work himself, and it is said that he has a deposit of a hundred thousand gold pieces.
