The earth said: Wise ones, listen to the message he sent me! He said that if he sent me a gift of some kind, I would decorate the city and the roads for three and a half ক্রোশs, and I would personally lead an army of four divisions to welcome him. Prepare the army of four divisions and go now to destroy his territory! The ministers said: God, that king is a great man, and it will not succeed if he sends a bad gift to God, so observe more carefully. If God's mind is satisfied, then it is good. If it is not satisfied, we will find an opportunity to deal with him. They had the road decorated for three and a half ক্রোশs. They also made the sound of the city free of stones, tiles, and gravel, and then sprinkled it with sandalwood water, displayed fragrant incense containers, hung garlands of silk tassels, erected umbrellas and victory banners, and spread various flowers, making them feel happy like the pleasure garden of the gods, and then the king personally led an army of four divisions to welcome them and let them enter the city. Then, hundreds of thousands of creatures also gathered there. In the center of the sky, hundreds of thousands of gods also gathered, and in the wide space, they made great offerings in it, opened that statue, and many merchants came from the central region with goods to the city of Sound, and they saw the Buddha statue and prostrated to the Buddha. Prostration to the Buddha! Everyone uttered the sound at the same time. King Utrayana, hearing the sound of the Buddha that he had never heard before, all the pores of his hair stood up, and he was surprised, and after observing carefully for a long time, he said: Wise ones, who is this one called Buddha? They said: God, in the central region, near the slope of the snow mountain, on the bank of the Ganges River, not far from the abode of the sage Kapila, a young man of the Shakya clan appeared, he

The astrologers and diviners predicted that if the young man were to remain in the palace, he would become a universal monarch, a king who would conquer the four continents, a king of dharma, endowed with dharma, and possessing the seven precious things. His seven precious things would be like this: namely, the precious wheel, the precious elephant, the precious horse, the precious jewel, the precious woman, the precious householder, and the precious general, these being the seventh. He would have brave sons, steadfast and courageous, possessing the finest physical form, capable of utterly destroying the enemy forces, and possessing a thousand sons. He would effortlessly and harmlessly conquer the entire great earth up to the ocean, and he would govern and dwell well, without harm or weapons, in accordance with dharma and justice. If he were to shave his hair and beard, don the saffron robes, and with unwavering faith go forth from home into homelessness, then he would become a Tathagata, an Arhat, a perfectly complete Buddha, renowned throughout the world. This deity is his image. The king was greatly pleased and said: "Wise ones, please inquire of him with wisdom. What is written below?" This deity is the one who makes promises. These are the foundations of training. These are the arising and cessation of the world. Wise ones, please also inquire of him with wisdom. What is written above? This deity is the one who brings joy. King Utrayana, having recited and well grasped the twelve links of dependent origination in their forward and reverse order, when the night dawned, having set aside all affairs and tasks, sat down, assumed the lotus position, straightened his body, and established mindfulness, contemplating the twelve links of dependent origination in their forward and reverse order. That is, because this exists, that arises; because this is born, that is born. For example, conditioned by ignorance,

Actions. Conditioned by actions arises consciousness. Conditioned by consciousness arises name and form. Conditioned by name and form arise the six sense sources. Conditioned by the six sense sources arises contact. Conditioned by contact arises feeling. Conditioned by feeling arises craving. Conditioned by craving arises grasping. Conditioned by grasping arises becoming. Conditioned by becoming arises birth. Conditioned by birth arise old age, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, discomfort, and agitation. Thus, this great mass of suffering arises. In this way, because this does not exist, this will not arise; because this has not arisen, this will not arise. Thus, because ignorance ceases, actions cease. Because actions cease, consciousness ceases. Because consciousness ceases, name and form cease. Because name and form cease, the six sense sources cease. Because the six sense sources cease, contact ceases. Because contact ceases, feeling ceases. Because feeling ceases, craving ceases. Because craving ceases, grasping ceases. Because grasping ceases, becoming ceases. Because becoming ceases, birth ceases. Because birth ceases, old age, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, discomfort, and agitation will cease. Thus, this great mass of suffering will cease, thus he observes. As he observed the arising and ceasing of the twelve links of dependent origination, he shattered the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and thus realized the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he spoke this verse: O Buddha, who dwells afar, with the eye of wisdom, thoroughly subdued. Whoever possesses such nourishment, I prostrate to the supreme physician. Having understood this, with faith, he wrote this letter to King Rupin, saying: Through the joy of being of one mind with you, I have pulled the feet of beings out of hell, animals, and hungry ghosts. Placed them among gods and humans. Samsara has come to an end. The ocean of blood and tears has dried up. Freed from the mountain of bones. Evil destinies
