When the Venerable Eka entered, the Bhikshuni Lotus Garland was asleep, and he woke her up with the sound of his ring. She paid homage to his feet and sat before him. The Bhikshuni Lotus Garland was wearing clothes suitable for the Bhikshuni's retinue, and the Venerable Eka sat with his senses restrained. The Bhikshuni Lotus Garland thought: Why is the Noble Eka sitting with his senses restrained? She thought again: Because I am wearing clothes suitable for the Bhikshuni's retinue, the Noble Eka is sitting with his senses restrained. Understanding this, she entered the room, put on thick clothes, and came out. The Venerable Eka gave her instruction and also spoke other Dharma. The Bhikshuni Lotus Garland said: Venerable, what is it? Have you invited the Sangha today? Or are you going for alms? He said: I am going for alms. The Bhikshuni Lotus Garland said: Venerable, if you are going for alms, who is more capable of offering food than me? I will offer it myself. Saying this, she filled the bowl with clean food and drink and offered it to him. The Venerable Eka took the bowl and came out, and met the Venerable Shariputra who was entering. Shariputra said: Have you exhausted your defilements with such little effort? Or are you just coming now? I gave her instruction and also spoke other Dharma, and I also obtained this bowl filled with clean food and drink. The Venerable Shariputra said: Therefore you are one of the group of six Bhikkhus. When the monks of few desires heard this, they rebuked: Why do the monks close the gate of the king's caste consecration before dawn, before the light of dawn, without collecting jewels or mentioning jewels? Do they want to cross the danger of the closed gate? They scolded, reviled, and mocked. At that time, the monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One understood the origin of this event.
