Having done that, he bowed to the feet of the Blessed One. The Blessed One gave a talk of appreciation and departed. Then, the Blessed One went to the monastery and sat down on the seat that had been prepared for him in front of the community of monks. Having sat down, the Blessed One addressed the monks, saying: Monks, these and other faults arise from monks entering villages at improper times. Monks, therefore, seeing the ten benefits perfectly, the foundation of learning should be established for the hearers, as before. My hearers should recite the foundation of learning in this way: Again, if any monk enters a village at an improper time, it is an offense entailing expiation. Thus, the Blessed One established the foundation of learning for the hearers. Those monks with severe illnesses are unable to sit for long, and the monks who care for the sick also neglect the affairs of the sick. Also, the monks who distribute food also neglect the affairs of the community. The monks reported these circumstances to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Therefore, a monk should speak of leaving. After the Blessed One said, "A monk should speak of leaving," a certain monk left his bowl and robes in another's house. After a while, a fire broke out there, and that monk intended to go there. When he had reached halfway, he thought, "I have not spoken to the monks of leaving." So he returned. Before he spoke to the monks of leaving, his bowl and robes were burned. When he arrived there, the householder said: Venerable, why have you come so late? Therefore, your bowl and robes have been burned. If you had come quickly, your bowl and robes would not have been burned. That monk also became impoverished. The monks reported these circumstances to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Therefore, except for such a circumstance. Then the Blessed One, desiring the training, and for the training,

After praising the restraint of behavior and the equipment for learning, he spoke to the monks words of Dharma that were in accordance with this, mostly the same as this, and consistent with this, and instructed the monks: Monks, therefore, the former is the established, and this is the permission. My hearers should recite the basis of learning in the Vinaya in this way: If any monk enters a village at the wrong time and does not tell the monk who is staying there, unless there is such a reason, he commits a downfall. Again, what is a monk? It refers to this Dharma person, or anyone else like that. What is the wrong time? There are two wrong times: before dawn and after noon. What is a village? It refers to a place where there are streets, crossroads, and three-way intersections. What does it mean to enter? It means to go. What does it mean not to tell the monk who is staying there? It means not telling the monk who is staying there. What does it mean unless there is such a reason? It means excluding such a reason. What is a downfall? It means burning, cooking, and falling into sentient hell, animals, hungry ghosts, evil destinies, and evil paths. Furthermore, as long as that downfall is not confessed and not individually confessed, it will hinder the virtuous Dharmas. Therefore, it is said to be a downfall. So, how does one fall into a downfall? If a monk enters a village at the wrong time, thinking it is the wrong time, he falls into a downfall. If he enters a village at the wrong time with doubt, he falls into a downfall. If he enters a village at the right time, thinking it is the wrong time, he commits a misdeed. If he enters a village at the right time with doubt, he commits a misdeed. There is no downfall for the first-time practitioner, the insane, the mentally disturbed, and those who are threatened by feelings. The garlanded nun said to King Gsalgyal who came to Kosala: The gods granted the monks complete abandonment of youth, and granted the nuns complete abandonment of the retinue of consorts. The young friend of the venerable Charkala God is my teacher. If such a famous monk is also forcibly killed, then

Who would bother to inquire of other, less renowned monks? Who authorized the killing of the venerable Acharyaka, and who carried it out? Why is it necessary to punish them by law? King Prasenajit, who arose in Kosala, admonished those who lived on scraps: O wise ones, tell me who ordered the killing of the venerable Acharyaka today, and who committed the deed! They searched everywhere and went in that direction, where they saw an old woman. When she did not see them, the old woman blurted out: It was he and those others who killed the supreme one who was hiding in this direction, the one who had faith in the family. Hearing this, they said: What is the old woman saying? The old woman replied: I'm not saying anything. They seized her and threatened her, saying: Tell us who killed him! She said: This Brahmin girl ordered the killing, and the brigand chief carried it out! They threatened her further, asking: Were there only those two? She replied: There are also five hundred swindlers. The king's men seized the Brahmin girl, the brigand chief, and the five hundred swindlers, and presented them to the king, saying: O divine one, the venerable Acharyaka was killed on the orders of this Brahmin girl, and the brigand chief carried out the deed. This is the leader of these five hundred swindlers! The king said: O wise ones, today tie this Brahmin girl to the legs of two wild asses! Put this brigand chief in a straw hut and burn it down! Cut off the hands and feet of these five hundred swindlers! They tied the Brahmin girl to the legs of two wild asses, put the brigand chief in a straw hut and burned it down, and cut off the hands and feet of the five hundred swindlers. The monks became doubtful and asked the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: Venerable sir, what deed did the venerable Acharyaka commit that, as a result of that deed, he was killed by those two, even though he had no hatred and had done no harm, and those two were also killed, and the five hundred swindlers
