The king did not do it, nor did the gods, nor did the ancestors of old, nor did the ascetics and Brahmins, nor did the loving ones and friends, nor the assembly of relatives. (But he) dried up the ocean of blood and tears, delivered from the mountains of bones, closed the gates of evil destinies, opened the gates of heaven and liberation, pulled beings out of hell, animals, and hungry ghosts, and placed them among gods and humans, and ended samsara. From beginningless time, the peak of the mountain of the view of the perishable aggregate, accumulated from twenty high mountains, was destroyed by the vajra of wisdom, and the fruit of stream-entry was obtained. I, the monk, have realized it. I, the monk, have realized it. I, the monk, go for refuge to the Bhagavan (Sanskrit: Bhagavan, Devanagari: भगवान्, Roman transliteration: bhagavān, literal meaning: Blessed One), the Dharma, and the Sangha of monks. I beseech you to accept me as a lay follower. From now on, until the end of my life, I take refuge with great joy from the bottom of my heart. Venerable Kashyapa, will you please accept my alms, robes, dwelling, causes of illness, and medicines until the end of my life? The venerable Kashyapa said, "Ordination is to join the ranks of following for the benefit of others, so one should also benefit other Brahmins." Having said this, he did not accept. The Brahmin said, "If the venerable Kashyapa does not accept, I will prepare a seat for the sages, and I pray that the venerable Kashyapa will come and enjoy it." The venerable Kashyapa did not say anything to the Brahmin and accepted. The venerable Kashyapa truly taught him with Dharma-related speech, made him truly believe, truly praised him, and truly made him happy, and then rose from his seat and left. At that time, the venerable Kashyapa tamed and settled two families out of ten Brahmin families in Shravasti. The venerable Kashyapa thought, "What is the time to tame now?" In Shravasti, there were about five hundred young Brahmins with their wives, carrying various ornaments, food, incense, and garlands, who came to the pleasure garden for the sake of amusement. The venerable Kashyapa thought:
