He thought, in Shravasti there lived a Brahmin who had taken a wife from the same caste, and he would play with her, be happy, and enjoy pleasures. They had a son, who was raised and grew up to be strong. That Brahmin's wife was fierce, barbaric, rude, arrogant, abusive, and scolding, so she was always quarreling with her husband's relatives, and therefore her name became Fierce Woman. Another time, a festival occurred in Shravasti, and the Brahmin said to his son: Son, your mother is fierce and always quarrels with others, so if we are thrown into prison, we will face death. Therefore, until the festival is over, we will go and dwell in another valley, and afterwards we will return. You go and ask your mother. The son said to his mother: Mother, I am going to such-and-such a valley for a small errand. The Fierce Woman said: Go where her first clothes disappeared! The Brahmin also said: I will go too. The Fierce Woman said: Go where you will never return! After the two of them had left, the Fierce Woman said to her maidservant: Daughter, set up the carrying pole, and we will cook porridge. She set up the carrying pole and began to carry things, and the Venerable Charka thought: Now is the time to tame the Fierce Woman.
