That which is called "this dharma" refers to this category of dharma. That which is called "to cause fear" refers to oneself. That which is called "to cause to fall into fear" refers to others. That which is called "even if one thinks of joking, it is permissible" means even if one thinks of joking, it is permissible. That which is called "a downfall" means that sentient beings are burned, tormented, and fallen into hell, animals, hungry ghosts, evil destinies, bad migrations, and wrong views. Furthermore, as long as those downfalls are not confessed and individually confessed, they obstruct virtuous dharmas. Therefore, it is said to be a "downfall." How does one fall into downfall? A monk, with the intention of causing fear to another monk, says, for example, there are hungry ghosts, flesh-eating ghosts, pot-bellied ghosts, and decaying bodies with unpleasant forms like crows, charcoal, and burnt pillars. They will take you away, they will kill you, they will deprive you of life. If one approaches and says this, whether the monk experiences fear or not, it becomes a downfall for the monk.

For example, just like the touch of gods, nagas, gandharvas, yakshas, non-humans, and mahoragas, the pleasing touch of silk, large pieces of cloth, fine cloth, satin, Dugula cloth, Kautamba cloth, and so on. If someone approaches and says: Those things will seduce you, those things will kill you, those things will take your life. Then, whether the bhikshu feels fear or not, it will constitute an offense for the bhikshu. To say stories about hell beings, animals, hungry ghosts, gods, and humans in order to make people depressed, this does not constitute an offense. There is no offense for beginners, madmen, those with disturbed minds, and those who are suffering. The sixty-sixth offense of causing fright ends here. Vinaya-vibhaṅga, sixty-second volume. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was staying in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti (an ancient Indian city from the mid-6th to mid-5th centuries BCE). At that time, the Venerable Mahāmaudgalyāyana ordained and fully ordained seventeen young bhikshus born of Sarpa, including attendants. At that time, they relied on the group of six bhikshus, approached them, and respected them. A householder invited the Buddha and other bhikshu sangha to another house for a meal, and the Buddha and other bhikshu sangha left. The group of six bhikshus and the group of seventeen bhikshus followed behind. There was a pond on the road filled with water. The group of six bhikshus said to the group of seventeen bhikshus: Group of seventeen bhikshus, alas, if you and we compete together, then come here, let's see who can stay submerged in the water for longer. They said: Let's do it that way. When they all entered the water, Nanda emerged from the water and hid the clothes of the group of seventeen bhikshus under a termite mound. The group of six bhikshus quickly came out of the pond, put on their clothes, and left. When the group of seventeen bhikshus came out of the water, the group of six bhikshus
