If the Sangha admonishes them, even if the Sangha admonishes them, they still stubbornly adhere to and are attached to the sinful view, and declare, "Only this is true, and the others are false." In this case, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: Monks, you should admonish the novice Thorn and the Great One, and anyone else like them, with admonition and the fourfold act. This is how you should admonish: After arranging the dwelling, strike the ghanta, and truthfully inform the monks with the words of inquiry. When all the Sangha are gathered and in harmony, move the two, the novice Thorn and the Great One, away from the range of hearing and place them within the range of sight. Then, one monk should make a request and perform the karma. Please listen, venerable Sangha. These two, the novice Thorn and the Great One, have developed such a sinful view, saying, "Whatever the Blessed One said, 'Desires are obstacles,' even if one relies on those desires, they will not become obstacles. This is how we understand the Dharma taught by the Blessed One." Be sure to cut it off! Thorn and Great One, you two, abandon this kind of sinful view! Exhort with a request and the fourfold act. This is the request. When exhorting in this way, if they give it up, then that is good. If they do not give it up, then after that, the karma should be performed. The karma should be performed as follows: O venerable Sangha, please listen! These two, the novice Thorn and Great One, have arisen with this kind of sinful view, saying: As the Blessed One said, desires are obstacles, but even if one relies on those desires, they will not become obstacles, we know that the Blessed One has thus proclaimed the Dharma.
