First, the monks should give, and then the laypeople should give. Then, that day, it should be distributed to the Sangha during the day. When Brahmins and faithful householders offer pots of ghee, pots of sesame oil, pots of honey, and pots of molasses to the Sangha, the monks do not accept them. The Blessed One then instructed: "It should be accepted, and after accepting, it should be distributed to the Sangha." When their robes became greasy, the Blessed One instructed: "Put grass or leaves in between and then distribute them." When they became tired from holding them up, the Blessed One instructed: "They should be put down." When they put them down and they stuck together, the Blessed One instructed: "They should be placed on a mat." After they ate those things, they gave those things back, and they said: "Venerable ones, we offered ghee, sesame oil, honey, and molasses. Didn't we offer the pots? Please enjoy the pots too!" When they accepted and sat down, the Blessed One instructed: "Those things should be placed in a deep pool of water for seven or eight days. When fish, turtles, frogs, or baby crocodiles are killed, or when they are completely licked clean by fish-dogs, then they should be put in a suitable room and used." The Blessed One instructed: "Allow giving and receiving and then eat." Since they did not know how to allow giving and receiving, and how not to allow giving and receiving, the Blessed One instructed: "In five ways, it should be said that giving and receiving is not allowed, and in five ways, it should be said that giving and receiving is allowed." Which five ways should be said to not allow giving and receiving? Staying outside the boundary, from a direction that cannot be obtained, from the chest, from the back, and giving and receiving with the palm of the hand covered. , and not from the back, and not with the palm of the hand covered, allowing the giving to be accepted. These five ways are said to be allowing the giving to be accepted. The Blessed One said, "Having allowed the giving to be accepted, it should be eaten." The Six Groups of monks allowed the giving to be accepted, and those who did not allow the giving to be accepted also ate. Some monks with few desires said, "The Blessed One said that having allowed the giving to be accepted, it should be eaten. Why do the monks eat both what is allowed to be accepted and what is not allowed to be accepted?" They condemned, ridiculed, and satirized. At that time, the monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One said, "Because of this event, because of this origin, because of this occasion, I will assemble the Sangha of monks." And so on, as before. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, knowingly commit offenses, and so on, also as before. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked the Six Groups of monks, "Monks, I said that having allowed the giving to be accepted, it should be eaten. Is it true that you eat both what is allowed to be accepted and what is not allowed to be accepted?" "It is true, Blessed One." The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked, "This is not the conduct of a renunciate, it is not in accordance, it is not proper, it is not in accordance with the rules. A renunciate should not do such a thing." Then, the Blessed One, having rebuked in various ways, said to the monks, "Monks, therefore, in order to fully see the ten benefits, the basis of learning should be established for the hearers." And so on, as before. "My hearers should recite the basis of learning in this way: If any monk eats food swallowed from the mouth without permission, he commits an offense of falling." The Blessed One thus established the basis of learning for the hearers. The monks living in solitary places, because they did not have the ability to provide the acceptance of giving for water and toothpicks, they abandoned the dwellings in solitary places and entered the dwellings on the outskirts of the village. The Buddha, the Blessed One
