Now. Those monks refer to which monks. Taking two or three full bowls should be done, here there are three types of bowls: large, medium, and small. Among them, the large one is where if two dou of Magadha small sheng of cooked rice are filled, along with beans and vegetables, the entire belly of the thumb cannot touch it only from the edge of the mouth. The small one is where if one sheng of Magadha small sheng of cooked rice is filled, along with beans and vegetables, the entire belly of the thumb cannot touch it only from the edge of the mouth. The medium one is in between those two. If taking more than that, it means more than that. A downfall means burning, cooking, and falling sentient beings into hell, animals, hungry ghosts, evil realms, evil paths, and wrong views. Furthermore, as long as that downfall is not confessed, and not confessed separately, it will obscure the virtuous dharmas, therefore it is said to be a downfall. After taking two or three full bowls, go to the outer monastery, and also distribute to the monks who are dwelling there, which means going to the temple outside the house, and there also give alms to which monks are dwelling there. So, how does it become a downfall? If a monk takes three large bowls, taking that will become a misdeed, and eating will become a downfall. If a monk takes two large bowls and one medium bowl, taking that will become a misdeed, and eating will become a downfall. If a monk takes two large bowls and one small bowl, taking that will become a misdeed, and eating will become a downfall. If a monk takes two medium bowls and one large bowl, taking that will become a misdeed, and eating will become a downfall. If a monk takes more than five and a half sheng of small sheng of rice, all of it will become a downfall. There is no downfall for the benefactor doing as he pleases. There is no downfall for beginners, madmen, those with disturbed minds, and those oppressed by feelings.

It is finished. The offense of taking more than about three alms bowls is the thirty-third, completed. Intermediate summary: One seat and water are abandoned alike. Impure things and permissible things with food, leftovers of food, and the category of sour porridge are summarized. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden, in Shravasti. Then the Bhagavan addressed the monks, saying: Monks, I eat one-sitting meals. When I eat one-sitting meals, I live with little desire, contentment, little trouble, little worry, light movement, livelihood, strength, happiness, blamelessness, and dwell touching happiness. Monks, you too come and eat one-sitting meals. When you eat one-sitting meals, you will live with little desire, contentment, little trouble, little worry, light movement, livelihood, strength, happiness, blamelessness, and dwell touching happiness. The monks practice eating one-sitting meals. When they eat one-sitting meals, even if they see the teacher, they rise. Even if they see the preceptor, the lama, or someone like the lama, they rise, so they say, "We have abandoned it," and do not eat. Therefore, they become thin, weak, with thin necks, dry, and their bodies are not nourished. The Buddhas, the Bhagavans, knowingly commit offenses, so the Buddha, the Bhagavan, rebuked the venerable Ananda: Ananda, I told the monks that I eat one-sitting meals. When I eat one-sitting meals, I live with little desire, contentment, little trouble, little worry, light movement, livelihood, strength, happiness, blamelessness, and dwell touching happiness. Monks, you too come and eat one-sitting meals. When you eat one-sitting meals, you will live with little desire, contentment, little trouble, little worry, light movement, livelihood, strength, happiness, blamelessness, and

If it is said like that, what is the cause and what is the reason that the monks are now thin, weak, thin-necked, dry, and have not obtained a body? The venerable Bhagavan said to the monks: I eat one meal at a time. When I eat one meal at a time, I live frugally, with little harm, little fear, light movement, life, strength, happiness, without fault, and live in contact with happiness. Monks, you also come and eat one meal at a time, and when you eat one meal at a time, you will live frugally, with little harm, little fear, light movement, life, strength, happiness, without fault, and live in contact with happiness. After giving this instruction, the monks did not eat one meal at a time. When they did not eat one meal at a time, they would stand up even when they saw the teacher. Even when they saw the Khenpo and the Lama and those like the Lama, they would stand up. Those people said that we have given up, so they did not eat. Therefore, they became thin, weak, thin-necked, dry, and did not obtain a body. Venerable, what is the cause and what is the reason that the monks are now thin, weak, thin-necked, dry, and have not obtained a body? That is the cause and that is the reason. Venerable Ananda, therefore, for those who have not given up, one should eat moderately. When starting to eat, one should not stand up when seeing the teacher, the Khenpo, the Lama, and those like the Lama. The Bhagavan taught: For those who have not given up, one should eat moderately. When starting to eat, one should not stand up when seeing the teacher, the Khenpo, the Lama, and those like the Lama. After saying this, those people gave up like water, and even gave up with leaves, beans, vegetables, and dried vegetables. Those people said that we have given up, so they did not eat. Therefore, they became thin, weak, thin-necked, dry, and did not obtain a body. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, knowingly cultivated. Therefore, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, said to the venerable Ananda: Ananda, I have not given up.
