If one stands with protection, then everything becomes a cause for falling. Standing in the doorway, and letting people into the medicine grinder, and standing with the door not closed, and others entering and others leaving, there is no falling. For beginners, and those who are mad, and those who are mentally disturbed, and those who are afflicted by feelings, there is no falling. The cause for falling by standing alone, this twenty-ninth is complete. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anathapindika. At that time, the Venerable Maha-Kasyapa was dwelling in Shravasti, in the eastern Jeta Grove, in the Deer Mother's Mansion. Then, the Venerable Maha-Kasyapa arose from his meditation, and went to where the Bhagavan was. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Bhagavan, and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Bhagavan said these words to the Venerable Maha-Kasyapa: "Kasyapa, now you are old and frail, and my lower garments, Sana robes, dusters, etc., are heavy. Kasyapa, go to the monastery of the Sangha, and accept the invitations of the people, and take possession of the offerings. Also, dye the clothes sewn by the householders with colored cloth into unpleasant colors, and then sell them." The Venerable Maha-Kasyapa did not speak, but listened to the Bhagavan's teachings. Then, the Venerable Maha-Kasyapa was very pleased and rejoiced at the Bhagavan's teachings, and he bowed his head at the feet of the Bhagavan, and then left. At that time, there was a householder living in Shravasti who had long had this wish: "Alas, if I could invite the Venerable Maha-Kasyapa, who is worshipped by gods and humans, to my house and offer him food, how wonderful it would be!" Then, the householder heard that the Bhagavan had entrusted the Arhat Maha-Kasyapa to the Sangha. Having heard this, he went to where the Venerable Maha-Kasyapa was. Having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Venerable Maha-Kasyapa, and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the Venerable Maha-Kasyapa spoke to that householder words in accordance with the Dharma.

In various ways, he correctly demonstrates, causes correct understanding, correctly praises, and correctly makes them rejoice. In various ways, with words in accordance with the Dharma, he correctly demonstrates, causes correct understanding, correctly praises, and after correctly making them rejoice, he does not speak. Then, that householder thought to himself: If I were to invite only the venerable Mahakashyapa to another's house, there would be a situation where it would not be allowed, so I should invite him and four others. Then, that householder rose from his seat, draped his upper robe over one shoulder, and with palms joined together, bowed in the direction of where the venerable Mahakashyapa was, and said this to the venerable Mahakashyapa: Venerable Mahakashyapa, would you and four others be willing to come to my house tomorrow for a meal? The venerable Mahakashyapa did not speak to that householder, thus consenting. Then, that householder, knowing that the venerable Mahakashyapa had consented by not speaking, bowed his head to the two feet of the venerable Mahakashyapa, and went to his own house, and said to his wife: Good woman, I have had this wish for a long time, that if I could invite the venerable Mahakashyapa, who is worshiped by gods and humans, to another's house to offer him food, how wonderful that would be! So I invited him and four others to another's house tomorrow for a meal, and he did not speak, thus consenting, so prepare abundant food! That householder's wife, having heard from the householder, prepared all the cold food on that very day, and prepared all the warm food for the next day. Then, that householder rose early in the morning and thought: If I spread the seat on the ground below, then the beggars will make noise when they come, and if I spread the seat on the ground above, then the bees will make a commotion there, so I should spread the seat on the ground in the middle, so he spread the seat on the ground in the middle, and sent someone to invite the venerable Mahakashyapa, the monk Mahakashyapa for the meal.
