And, there is no falling into the danger of madness, mental confusion, and sensations. The downfall of entering the journey together with a bhikṣuṇī, the twenty-sixth, is complete. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Anāthapiṇḍada's monastery in Jeta's Grove in Śrāvastī. The group of six monks said: "Nanda and Upananda, these black-bowled ones have their feet smeared with monkey fat. Even if they travel, they are preparing to go, so they strive to gain. Even if they come, they strive to gain what comes suddenly, and many people also become happy and satisfied. You fellows are like turtles in a well, not going anywhere, not coming from anywhere, how can you gain, how can you make many people happy and satisfied? You fellows should also go. Where to go? To wander. Sisters, look!" Those monks, in the morning, having put on their lower garments, taking their bowls and robes, went to Śrāvastī for alms, and then went to the bhikṣuṇī's summer residence, and having gone to the group of twelve bhikṣuṇīs, they said: "Sisters, look! We are going to wander." They wept. The group of six monks said: "Sisters, why are you weeping? If you go wandering, Jeta's Grove will become empty for us." The group of six monks said: "Sisters, the Blessed One is dwelling with a retinue of one thousand two hundred and fifty, are you saying that Jeta's Grove will become empty for us?" They said: "Black-bowled ones, if you are not even happy to see us, how can you look at tears and cushions, and listen to the Dharma?" Upananda said: "Sisters, then let's go together." They said: "Didn't the Blessed One establish the training rule that if a monk embraces a bhikṣuṇī with a common purpose and enters the journey, it is a downfall unless it is a special occasion?" Upananda said: "That was established on the land route, we are going by the water route." Sthūlanandā said: "Is it permissible for bhikṣuṇīs to go with monks on the water route?" Upananda said: "It is very permissible. Very permissible."

After they had enjoyed the porridge, they ate all the provisions that they had prepared. They said, 'Sisters, see how much provisions you have prepared?' They said, 'Those are what you have enjoyed.' The group of six said, 'How can you travel with so little provisions? You will be even more hungry on the road. Prepare more provisions!' They prepared many provisions and then traveled with the group of six. A beggar also traveled with them. The monks said to him, 'These beggars always do improper things. Do not travel with them! You will be blamed.' The beggar said, 'I am old, and for these people, whether it is listening, reading, reciting, questioning, yoga, or contemplation, I have gained nothing. What harm can these people do to me?' He did not listen to them and boarded the boat with the group of six. When they reached beyond the boundary, they said, 'Joyful one and Near Joyful one, how long will we live according to the behavior of others? Come back, let us live according to our own behavior!' First the Joyful one sat down, then the Joyful woman sat down, then the Joyful one's companion sat down, then the Joyful woman's companion sat down, then the Joyful one's novice sat down, then the Joyful woman's female novice sat down. Similarly, Near Joyful one and Crown Joyful woman, and so on, were also arranged to sit down alternately. A like-minded person and a Brahmin were walking together, and he saw them and then he said:

He is a mendicant, this is his wife, this is his son, this is his daughter-in-law. This is his grandson. This is known to be his grandson's wife. Having heard this, Nedegha said: Miser, I will press your neck with my foot, this is my wife. This is my son. This is my daughter-in-law. This is my grandson. This is my grandson's wife. The alms-seeker thought: After my death, it is not proper to go on a boat together with these evil-doers. Having thought this, he returned and went to the grove of the victorious one. The monks saw him and said: Alms-seeker, how did you pass comfortably? Venerable ones, how did you pass comfortably? The six groups of evil-doers, stained by defilements, are destroying the teachings of the Blessed One. What did you do? He told the monks about this in detail. The monks with few desires criticized: Why do the monks embrace the nuns' companions and enter the same boat? They reviled and ridiculed. At that time, the monks reported this to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, regarding this event, this origin, and this occasion, convened the assembly of monks, and so on, as before. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, act knowingly, and so on, as before. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked the six groups: Monks, is it true that you embrace the nuns' companions and enter the same boat? The monks replied: It is true, venerable one. The Buddha, the Blessed One, rebuked: It is not the conduct of a mendicant, it is not in accordance, it is not proper, it is not in accordance with the Dharma, it is not something to be done by one who has gone forth. Having rebuked in various ways, the Blessed One addressed the monks: Monks, therefore, seeing ten benefits, one should establish the basis of training for the disciples of the hearers in the Vinaya, and so on, as before. My hearers.
