After rebuking in various ways, the Blessed One admonished the monks, saying: Monks, therefore, having truly seen the ten benefits, the Vinaya should be established as the basis of training for the Hearers. As previously stated. My Hearers should recite the training of the Vinaya in this way: If any monk, says to the monks: Monks, for the sake of a little food, he declares to a Bhikkhuni, he commits a Patayantika offense. Again, "any monk" means the Shakya son, Sudeep, or any other such person. "To the monks" means to those who follow this Dharma. "Says thus" means to speak thus. "Monks" means those who follow this Dharma. "For the sake of a little food" means for the sake of the five kinds of food and the five kinds of drink. "To a Bhikkhuni" means to those who follow this Dharma. "Declares" means higher morality, higher mind, higher wisdom. "Commits a Patayantika offense" means burning, boiling, and causing to fall into sentient hells, animals, hungry ghosts, evil destinies, bad paths, and places of falling. Furthermore, if this Patayantika offense is not confessed and not individually confessed, it obstructs virtuous Dharmas, therefore it is said to commit a Patayantika offense. How does one become a Patayantika offense? If a monk, even a little, says to the monks: Monks, for the sake of a little food, he declares to a Bhikkhuni, then all become a Patayantika offense. If for the sake of a little food, he declares the truth to a Bhikkhuni, then there is no offense. There is no offense for the first offender, the madman, the disturbed in mind, or those oppressed by feelings. The Patayantika offense of declaring for the sake of a little food, this twenty-third is complete. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's monastery, in Sravasti. In Sravasti, there was a merchant who took a wife from the same clan, and he played, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness with her. Later, when he was old and weak, his relatives were exhausted, his wealth was exhausted, and his resources were exhausted, he said to his wife:

Pa. Good woman, I cannot accumulate wealth now, I will go forth. The wife said: Prince's son, I will also go forth. Do it like that. Thus, he took his wife to Mahapajapati Gotami, the great mother of beings, and said: Holy mother, my attendant wants to go forth in this well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, please, holy mother, let her go forth, let her receive the full ordination. Mahapajapati Gotami, the great mother of beings, let her go forth and gave her the full ordination. He said to the merchant: Prince's son, the place of women is the place of enjoying sensual pleasures, you should visit from time to time. That merchant also went to Jetavana and went forth at the place of the monks. The merchant of Sravasti has gone forth, it was said, and because he had great merit, his Dharma robes, alms, dwelling, medicine for sickness, and medicine were all provided. At another time, wearing a reddish-yellow samghati, he went to the summer retreat of that bhikshuni. That bhikshuni bowed to his feet with her head, and sitting in front, he repeatedly looked at her samghati, and then that bhikshu said: Sister, do you want this samghati? She said: Like the leftovers of the heavenly realm. He thought: I should give this samghati to her, and I will sew another samghati myself, thinking, he gave her the samghati and left. Then, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda: Ananda, go and tell the monks, monks, the Tathagata is going on a pilgrimage to Kosala, whoever among you is willing to go on a pilgrimage with the Tathagata, take your Dharma robes. The Venerable Ananda replied: Venerable One, as you command. Having heard from the Blessed One, he announced to the monks: Venerable ones, the Blessed One is going on a pilgrimage to Kosala, whoever among you is willing to go on a pilgrimage with the Tathagata, take your Dharma robes. Then, the Blessed One with a tamed retinue corresponding to the tamed, with a peaceful retinue
