Then, the young physician named Jiwashanu (Jivaka Komarabhacca) prepared clean food and drink that night and made preparations for almsgiving. The next morning, he got up early, prepared the seats, and prepared the water. He invited the Blessed One, saying, "Venerable, the umbrella is ready." The Blessed One replied, "Now is the time." Thus he invited. Then, the Blessed One put on his lower garment in the morning, took his bowl and Dharma robes, and surrounded by the assembly of monks, with the Sangha of monks leading the way, went to the mango grove of the physician Jiwashanu (Jivaka Komarabhacca). After arriving, he sat down on the seat prepared in front of the Sangha of monks. After sitting down, the Blessed One said to the venerable Kundgawo (Ananda), "Kundgawo (Ananda), draw the seat of Lampa." The young physician Jiwashanu (Jivaka Komarabhacca) took the golden ball and stood beside the elders, and the Blessed One did not accept the water. The young physician Jiwashanu (Jivaka Komarabhacca) asked, "Why does the Blessed One not accept the water?" The Blessed One replied, "The Sangha of monks has not yet gathered." The young physician Jiwashanu (Jivaka Komarabhacca) asked, "Blessed One, who is missing?" The Blessed One replied, "The monk Lampa." The young physician Jiwashanu (Jivaka Komarabhacca) asked, "Blessed One, I did not invite him." The Blessed One replied, "Jiva (Jivaka), did you not invite the Sangha of monks, including the Buddha?" Blessed One, I invited him. Then, is Lampa outside the Sangha of monks? Blessed One, no. Go and call him. The young physician Jiwashanu (Jivaka Komarabhacca) thought: Although I will call him according to the Blessed One's command, I will not respectfully serve him. So, he sent someone and said, "Go and call him." The venerable Lampa also entered into such a samadhi that if the mind can remain calm, it can manifest twelve hundred and fifty monks gathering.

何也？那使者去了，喊着“路者，路者”，众比丘回答“是”。那人来对医护青年耆婆迦说：“我到那里喊‘路者，路者’，在光明园迦兰陀迦处，如先前众比丘充满安住一样，众比丘充满安住，众比丘回答‘是’，从那些人中叫谁呢？”医护青年耆婆迦将此事禀告世尊，世尊开示说：“去吧，去了，把哪个是真正的路者叫来。”那人去了说：“哪个是真正的路者，请来。”之后，具寿路者将神通显现收回，到那里坐在自己的座位上。医护青年耆婆迦开始向佛陀等比丘僧团布施，没有恭敬具寿路者而布施。世尊心想：医护青年耆婆迦对如同须弥山般的大声闻，说要接受。我应当宣扬此人的功德，于是具寿阿难陀要取世尊的钵时，世尊没有给他。按法性，只要世尊没有拿起钵，就不会拿长老比丘们的钵。具寿路者心想：为什么世尊和长老比丘们不拿钵呢？知道是为了宣扬自己的功德，心想应当圆满导师的心意。于是，具寿路者从座位上站起一半，伸出象鼻般的胳膊，取了世尊的钵。医护青年耆婆迦在老者的旁边坐着，看见了，心想：这个显现神通变化的是哪位长老？于是跟着钵走，不久就看见是具寿路者。看见后，他昏倒在地，用水泼洒后才苏醒。

What? That messenger went and called out, "Wayfarer, wayfarer!" And many monks answered, "Yes." That man came and said to the young physician Jīvaka, "If I go there and call out, 'Wayfarer, wayfarer!' at the Light Garden in the Kalandaka place, just as the monks were previously filled and dwelling there, the monks are filled and dwelling, and many monks answer, 'Yes,' whom shall I call from among them?" The young physician Jīvaka reported this matter to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed, "Go, go and bring whoever is the true wayfarer." He went and said, "Which one is the true wayfarer, please come." Then the Venerable Lampara withdrew the manifestation of magical power and went there and sat in his own seat. The young physician Jīvaka began to distribute to the Sangha of monks, including the Buddha, and distributed without respecting the Venerable Lampara. The Blessed One thought, "The young physician Jīvaka is saying to take from the great Śrāvaka who is like Mount Sumeru. I should proclaim this person's virtues." Then, when the Venerable Ānanda was about to take the Blessed One's bowl, the Blessed One did not give it to him. By nature, as long as the Blessed One has not taken the bowl, the bowls of the elder monks are not taken. The Venerable Lampara thought, "Why do the Blessed One and the elder monks not take the bowls?" Knowing that it was to proclaim his own virtues, he thought, "I should fulfill the Teacher's intention completely." Then, the Venerable Lampara rose halfway from his seat, stretched out his hand like an elephant's trunk, and took the Blessed One's bowl. The young physician Jīvaka was sitting beside the old man and saw it, and thought, "Which elder is this who is displaying magical transformations?" Then he followed the bowl, and soon he saw that it was the Venerable Lampara. Having seen him, he fainted and fell to the ground, and was revived by sprinkling water.
