That merchant was also praising him, saying, "Wise ones, look at that leader named Bya-yi-ka, whatever grass or soil he takes, everything turns into gold. See how fortunate and powerful he is!" He kept praising him. As he was praising him in this way, he went to the gatekeeper and said, "The leader Bya-yi-ka is waiting at the gate." The merchant said, "Let the leader Bya-yi-ka enter! Who would stop the leader Bya-yi-ka?" Then, the leader Bya-yi-ka entered the room and said to the merchant, "Merchant, this is the principal, and this is the profit, please take it." The merchant said, "Leader, I don't remember giving you anything." The leader said, "I will make you remember." When he made him remember, the merchant asked, "Whose son are you?" "The son of so-and-so householder." The merchant said, "Oh, you are the son of my little friend! When your father passed away, I had many Karshapanas in my hand, and I should have given some to you." Then, that merchant welcomed him with offerings filled with gold balls and water, and gave his daughter Thumo, adorned with all kinds of jewels, to the leader Bya-yi-ka as his wife. Monks, at that time, the merchant was myself. At that time, the leader Bya-yi-ka was this Lamba. At that time, I also filled him with some advice and made him a great master of wealth. Now, I am also filling him with some advice, pulling him out of the wilderness of samsara, and placing him in the ultimate achievement and the unsurpassed bliss of nirvana." Vinaya-vibhanga, Volume 48. The monks asked the Blessed One, "Venerable One, what deeds did Lamba commit that caused the ripening of his karma to be slow, very slow, small, and very small?" The Blessed One said, "Monks, the lineage of

Because the son Lampa himself obtained the accumulation of karma, transformed into favorable conditions, closely abiding like light, he did and accumulated things that were not devoured by demons and spirits, the karma done and accumulated by the son Lampa himself, who else would experience them individually? Monks, the karma done and accumulated will not ripen in the external realm of earth, will not ripen in the realm of water, will not ripen in the realm of fire, will not ripen in the realm of wind, like this, the virtuous and non-virtuous karma done and accumulated will ripen in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped, karma, even after hundreds of thousands of kalpas, will not be exhausted, once the causes and conditions come together, it will transform into fruition on sentient beings. Monks, in the past, in this very fortunate kalpa, when the life span of beings could reach twenty thousand years, the teacher, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the perfectly complete Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the knower of the world, the unsurpassed tamer of beings, the teacher of gods and humans, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, Light Treasury Buddha appeared in the world, and he, together with a sangha of twenty thousand monks, dwelt near Varanasi (Vārāṇasī). In his teachings, this monk Lampa became the holder of the three pitakas, but because of his stinginess with the Dharma, he did not teach even a four-line verse to anyone. Again, on a certain cliff, there lived a pig butcher, on the cliffs on this side and the other side of the river, it was the time of a festival, and the pig butcher thought: if I kill the pigs, there won't be so much meat to sell, it would be better to drive the live pigs over there, and slaughter and sell them in batches there, so he strung many pigs together one by one, loaded them onto a boat and set off, when the boat was sailing, it capsized, and those pigs were suffering there in an improper way. The pig butcher was also carried away by the current, on the bank of the river, there were about five hundred Pratyekabuddhas seated there. One of those Pratyekabuddhas went to the riverbank to get water, and when he saw those pigs, he thought: are these pigs dead? Or are they alive? So he stretched out his hand like an elephant's trunk, to

Then, having spread out the sand, he placed it face down there and left. From all that time, water seeped out, and he regained consciousness and stood up. Seeing human footprints, he followed those footprints. When he saw five hundred Pratyekabuddhas, he began to serve them with leaves, fruits, and toothpicks. They gave him the leftovers from their bowls. When those Pratyekabuddhas sat in the lotus position and meditated, he also sat alone there, in the lotus position, and meditated. He generated the absorption of non-perception there and was born among the gods of the non-perceptual beings. Monks, At that time, in that era, in the teachings of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Light-Protecting, whoever was a monk possessing the three baskets, and whoever was a pig seller, that was this Lampa monk. Because of his stinginess with the Dharma, he did not show even a four-line verse to anyone, he killed those pigs, and due to the ripening of the karma of being born here from among the non-perceptual beings, he became dull, extremely dull, small, and extremely small. Monks, therefore, not having instruction has these and other faults, so a monk should not meditate without instruction. If he meditates, he will incur a serious transgression. Then, the Blessed One, having stayed in Shravasti as he pleased, went to where Rajagriha was. Gradually traveling, he arrived in Rajagriha and stayed in the Bamboo Grove, the Kalandaka place, in Rajagriha. In Rajagriha, the youth Jivaka heard that the Blessed One, gradually traveling, had arrived in Rajagriha and was staying in the Bamboo Grove, the Kalandaka place, in Rajagriha, so he went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, he bowed his head to the two feet of the Blessed One and sat down to one side. Having sat down to one side, the Blessed One correctly taught, guided, and inspired the youth Jivaka with a Dharma-related discourse.
