Because that poison was that householder's childhood friend, that householder filled the merchant's hands with many kārṣāpaṇas, saying: If my wife is completely lacking in clothes and food, you should provide her with food and clothes. Having said this, that person took the goods and entered the great ocean, and there suffered because of impropriety. That wife nourished and raised that child with the strength of relatives and the strength of her hands. And that child asked his mother: Mother, what work did my father and grandfathers do? The mother thought: If I tell him that he can use a large ship in the great ocean, then he will also enter the great ocean and there suffer because of impropriety, and will become such a situation. So she said: Child, your father and grandfathers were merchants here. Mother, give me kārṣāpaṇas, and I will also do business here. Child, where do I have kārṣāpaṇas? I have nourished and raised you with the strength of relatives and the strength of my hands, so where do I have the wealth of kārṣāpaṇas? Thus, this merchant is your father's childhood friend, take kārṣāpaṇas from him and do business. That child went to that merchant, and that merchant was also rejected three times by other people to do business, so he was persevering there, and then, from his house, a maidservant put a mouse corpse on a broom, came out and began to discard it. That merchant said to that person: If anyone can do it, then he can also make a living with this mouse corpse. That child heard this and thought: This merchant is a great person, so he will not speak casually, so it is certain that he can make a living with this mouse corpse. So, that child followed that maidservant. That maidservant threw away the broom, and that child picked up the mouse corpse and went to the market. There, a cat was tied in the shop, and that child showed the mouse corpse to that cat.

So the boy roasted the beans in a pan, filled a flask with cold water, and went to the rocky mountain, to the place where the woodcutters would rest. He sat there, and when the woodcutters arrived, the boy said to them, "Uncles, put down your loads of wood and rest for a moment." Then the woodcutters put down their loads of wood, and the boy gave them each a few beans and let them drink cold water. The woodcutters said, "Nephew, where are you going? Are you going to cut wood? We have traveled this far before, and now we are returning. If you go now, when will you return?" They each gave him a piece of wood. Those who each gave a piece of wood helped the boy lift his load of wood, and he carried it back. He sold the wood, bought beans, roasted them, filled a flask with cold water, and went back to the same place and sat down.
