Wasn't it so? Venerable Ananda, although we had promised to spend the summer in comfort at Teva in the village of abandonment, we have become weary from begging for alms. Venerable ones, it seems indeed to be so, for being busy with begging for alms has led to emaciation, weakness, dryness of the neck and body, bodily discomfort, and a reduction in skin, muscle, and blood. Those monks who had promised to spend the summer in the dangerous vicinity of the fishermen's village, after spending three months of summer, were endowed with robes. Having and completing the robes, due to the increase in fat, skin, muscle, and blood, they carried their bowls and robes and wandered to a place called the village of Light, and as they gradually wandered to the village of Light, Venerable Ananda saw those very obese monks from afar. Having seen them, due to his delight in those who practice the same as Brahma, he greeted them with friendly words and took their bowls, robes, mats, needle cases, pill containers, oil jars, hats, broken shoes, and slippers, and said: Venerable ones, come in, welcome. Venerable ones, where have you come from now? Where did you promise to spend the summer? Venerable Ananda, we have come here from the fishermen's village. We promised to spend the summer in the fishermen's village. Venerable ones, how did you promise to spend the summer in comfort in the fishermen's village? Weren't you weary from begging for alms? Venerable Ananda, we promised to spend the summer in comfort at Teva in the fishermen's village, but we were not weary from begging for alms either. Venerable ones, it seems indeed to be so, for not being busy with begging for alms has led to an increase in fat, skin, muscle, and blood. Venerable ones, now there is a terrible famine, and in remote places it is difficult for beggars to find food, and even parents find it difficult to consider giving food to their own children, let alone beggars? Here, venerable ones, you beg for alms

What is the cause of his being unhurried? What is the condition? Venerable Ananda, we have proclaimed each other's true qualities in front of relatives and friends. This monk has attained the perception of impermanence, the perception of suffering in impermanence, the perception of no-self in suffering, the perception of aversion to food, the perception of extreme displeasure with the entire world, the perception of fault, the perception of abandonment, the perception of detachment from desire, the perception of cessation, the perception of death, the perception of impurity, the perception of bluishness, the perception of putrefaction, the perception of bloating, the perception of being eaten by worms, the perception of being devoured, the perception of being bloody, the perception of being scattered, the perception of a skeleton, and the perception of individually discriminating in emptiness. This monk has attained the first dhyana, the second, the third, the fourth, loving-kindness, compassion, joy, equanimity, the sphere of infinite space, the sphere of infinite consciousness, the sphere of nothingness, the sphere of neither perception nor non-perception, and the fruit of stream-entry, the fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning, and the realm of magical powers, the divine ear, the knowledge of others' minds, the knowledge of past lives, the knowledge of death and rebirth, and the exhaustion of defilements. This monk is an Arhat, a meditator on the eight liberations. This monk is liberated from both parts. Thus, they proclaimed each other's true qualities. Is this true? Or is it not true? It is true. Venerable ones, can you speak of the superhuman dharma to one who has not received full ordination? Perhaps it is possible, perhaps it is not possible. This is how we have spoken. Why do those monks of few desires scold, reject, and slander the monks for speaking of the superhuman dharma to one who has not received full ordination?
