Sometimes they would put in a regular fishing net, and sometimes they would put in a large fishing net. When there were no fish to be bought, they would put in a regular fishing net; when there were fish to be bought, they would put in a large fishing net. At another time, a festival occurred in Vaisali, and they put in two kinds of fishing nets. Two hundred and fifty put in a regular fishing net, and two hundred and fifty put in a large fishing net. Those who put in the regular fishing net killed fish, turtles, frogs, and baby crocodiles, and many fish-dogs, etc., and piled them up in large heaps like sesame seeds, rice porridge, Chinese fir trees, and Chinese soybeans. Those who put in the large fishing net entered a delightful river from the great ocean, seized a sleeping, large-sized crocodile fish, and they began to drag it. As they dragged it, it woke up and, carrying those two hundred and fifty fishermen and the large fishing net, entered the direction of competition. Those fishermen said to the other two hundred and fifty fishermen, 'Wise ones, come back with the large fishing net and us!' When they heard this, those two hundred and fifty fishermen also came and gathered there. The crocodile, carrying five hundred fishermen and the large fishing net, entered the direction of escape and could not be caught. Those helpless people cried out everywhere, 'Wise ones, come and help us with the large fishing net and us!' Then, those with sticks, as well as cowherds who had not seen work, shepherds, wood gatherers, grass gatherers, those who lived by the road, those who lived by getting lost, and hundreds and thousands of other creatures returned, and they struck and variously struck the body, beat the fishing net with sticks, and completely smashed it, dragging the crocodile from the water to the shore. It had seventy-eight heads and thirty-six eyes. Some of its heads were like the head of an elephant, some like the head of a horse, some like the head of a peacock, the head of a donkey, the head of a cow, the head of a monkey...

Some heads are like elephant heads, some heads are like lion heads, some heads are like tiger heads, some heads are like bear heads, some heads are like female bear heads, some heads are like fox heads, some heads are like cat heads, some heads are like goat heads, some heads are like sheep heads, some heads are like deer heads, some heads are like buffalo heads, some heads are like pig heads, and some heads are like dog heads. In short, in a place full of delightful rivers, five hundred fishermen entered the delightful river from the great ocean. A huge crocodile was caught by a powerful old woman, dragged from the water to the shore, and it was said to have eighteen heads and thirty-six eyes. This news spread far and wide. Hearing this news, hundreds of thousands of creatures gathered on the bank of the delightful river. Some came out of curiosity, and some were driven by past virtuous roots. The six non-Buddhist teachers, including the Perfecter, who resided in the vast area, also came there out of curiosity. A large crowd of people were also amazed, and they carefully observed and pondered. Knowledgeable people said, "This head, some of them resemble elephant heads," and they speculated in this way. "This head, some of them resemble dog heads," they also speculated in this way. At that time, for the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, there was nothing unknown, nothing unseen, nothing not understood, and not even a little bit of ignorance. From "The Bhagavat skillfully tamed those five hundred fishermen" to "Completely ordaining them," it is narrated in detail as previously stated in the case of the fourth defeat. Later, at another time, the five hundred monks on the bank of the delightful river, they amused themselves, strived, and struggled with dice and the throwing of dice. When they lived alone, secluded, cautious, steadfast, and abandoning themselves, for what reason did those sons of good families shave their hair and beards, put on robes, and, solely out of sincere faith, renounce their homes for homelessness, in order to realize the unsurpassed Brahmacharya in this very life through their own realization, thereby knowing the truth that "My life has ended, the Brahmacharya has been practiced, what needs to be done has been done, and there will be no other life."
