The venerable Sgra-can-zin saw the Blessed One from afar. Having seen him, he prepared a seat for the Blessed One, placed water for washing the feet and a footstool, and after welcoming him, he took the Dharma robe and said: "Blessed One, please come. It is good that the Blessed One has come!" He also said: "Blessed One, please be seated on the prepared seat." After the Blessed One was seated on the prepared seat, the Blessed One washed his own two feet, left a little water in the water vessel, and said to the venerable Sgra-can-zin: "Sgra-can-zin, did you see me leave a little water in the water vessel?" "Venerable one, I saw it." "Sgra-can-zin, similarly, I say that for a foolish person who knowingly lies, without shame, without hesitation, without regret, his practice as a renunciate is small." Then, the Blessed One poured the little remaining water on the ground and said to the venerable Sgra-can-zin: "Sgra-can-zin, did you see me pour the little remaining water on the ground?" "Venerable one, I saw it." "Sgra-can-zin, similarly, I say that for a foolish person who knowingly lies, without shame, without hesitation, without regret, his practice as a monk is abandoned." Then, the Blessed One threw the water vessel on the ground and said to the venerable Sgra-can-zin: "Sgra-can-zin, did you see me throw the water vessel on the ground?" "Venerable one, I saw it." "Sgra-can-zin, similarly, I say that for a foolish person who knowingly lies, without shame, without hesitation, without regret, his practice as a renunciate is shattered." Then, the Blessed One overturned the water vessel on the ground and said to the venerable Sgra-can-zin: "Sgra-can-zin, did you see me overturn the water vessel on the ground?" "Venerable one, I saw it." "Sgra-can-zin, similarly, I say that for a foolish person who knowingly lies, without shame, without hesitation, without regret, his practice as a renunciate is overturned." Sgra-can-zin, it is like this, for example, a king's elephant, a proud elephant, coming from Matanga, young, sixty years old, with tusks as long as chariot axles,
