A bhikshu, with the intention of sowing discord, goes to someone who has renounced from being a carpenter and says this: 'Venerable one, you have a bhikshu here. Venerable one, where do you have the conduct of a renunciate? Where do you have the conduct of a Brahmin? Venerable one, you have renounced from being a carpenter. Venerable one, you should learn your own craft, such as hats and caps, and children's clothes, and cut wooden posts, and trousers and short skirts, and whatever other crafts of a carpenter.' If one says, 'Which bhikshu? The name is this, the lineage is this, the clan is this,' then speaking the name results in a downfall; speaking the lineage and clan results in a misdeed. A bhikshu, with the intention of sowing discord, goes to someone who has renounced from being a blacksmith and says this: 'Venerable one, you have a bhikshu here. Venerable one, where do you have the conduct of a renunciate? Where do you have the conduct of a Brahmin? Venerable one, you have renounced from being a blacksmith. Venerable one, you should learn your own craft, such as bowls and small bowls, and needles and knives, and razors, and whatever other crafts of a blacksmith.' If one says, 'Which bhikshu? The name is this, the lineage is this, the clan is this,' then speaking the name results in a downfall; speaking the lineage and clan results in a misdeed. A monk, with the intention of creating discord, goes to the dwelling of a leatherworker who has gone forth and says, "Venerable one, a monk says to you, venerable one, where is the conduct of a renunciate in the venerable one? Where is the conduct of a Brahmin? The venerable one has gone forth from being a leatherworker, so the venerable one should learn his own craft, such as shoes with buckles, shoes with broken uppers, slippers, saddles, pouches, and any other craft of a leatherworker." Then he says, "Which monk is it? The name is this, the caste is this, the family is this." Speaking the name will result in a downfall, and speaking the caste and family will result in a misdeed. A monk, with the intention of creating discord, goes to the dwelling of a potter who has gone forth and says, "Venerable one, a monk says to you, venerable one, where is the conduct of a renunciate in the venerable one? Where is the conduct of a Brahmin? The venerable one has gone forth from being a potter, so the venerable one should learn his own craft, such as pottery, pots, round balls, jars, bowls, and any other craft of a potter." Then he says, "Which monk is it? The name is this, the caste is this, the family is this." Speaking the name will result in a downfall, and speaking the caste and family will result in a misdeed. A monk, with the intention of creating discord, goes to the dwelling of a barber who has gone forth and says, "Venerable one, a monk says to you, venerable one, where is the conduct of a renunciate in the venerable one? Where is the conduct of a Brahmin? The venerable one has gone forth from being a barber, so the venerable one should learn his own craft, such as cutting hair, cutting nails, shaving beards, trimming pubic hair, and any other craft of a barber." Then he says, "Which monk is it? The name is this, the caste is this, the family is this." Speaking the name will result in a downfall, and speaking the caste and family will result in a misdeed.
