Hey, venerable one, where is the conduct of a renunciate? Where is the conduct of a Brahmin? The venerable one has gone forth from a potter. If (someone) says this, (and then asks:) Which monk? If one says the name is this, the caste is this, the lineage is this, then speaking the name will incur a downfall, and speaking the caste and lineage will incur an offense. A monk, with the intention of sowing discord, goes to someone who has gone forth from a barber and says this: Hey, venerable one, you have a monk here. If (someone) says this: Hey, venerable one, where is the conduct of a renunciate? Where is the conduct of a Brahmin? The venerable one has gone forth from a barber. If (someone) says this, (and then asks:) Which monk? If one says the name is this, the caste is this, the lineage is this, then speaking the name will incur a downfall, and speaking the caste and lineage will incur an offense. A monk, with the intention of sowing discord, goes to someone who has gone forth from a carpenter and says this: Hey, venerable one, you have a monk here.
