My son is so miraculous, so powerful, (King Suddhodana) was very happy in his heart, and did not see the truth. Devadatta was greedy for sin, and because of arrogance, he was even more arrogant, and did not see the truth. Devadatta did not see the truth, and was overwhelmed by anger, and said: If I could also learn such a compliant illusion, I could also comply with all the world. Those who were subdued by Shakyamuni and rejoiced said to him: Devadatta, stop! The Blessed One is miraculous and powerful, do not say that. After that, he stayed without saying a word. The next day, when the nursery was growing, a crescent-shaped seat was prepared in a spacious place. There, the Blessed One also understood the thoughts, habits, roots, and nature of the multitude of people, except for those like King Suddhodana and Devadatta who were greedy for sin, arrogant and even more arrogant, seventy-six thousand Shakyas, such as Braevo, etc., all saw the truth, and thus preached the Dharma. There, among the thousands of beings, some attained the fruit of stream-entry, some attained the fruit of once-returning, some attained the fruit of non-returning, and some renounced and abandoned all afflictions, attaining the fruit of Arhat. The Blessed One placed most of that retinue in refuge in the Buddha, refuge in the Dharma, and refuge in the Sangha. King Suddhodana thought that my son was so miraculous and so powerful, and he was very happy in his heart, and did not see the truth. Devadatta was greedy for sin, and because of arrogance, he was even more arrogant, and did not see the truth. Devadatta did not see the truth, and was overwhelmed by anger, and said: If I could also learn such a compliant illusion, I could also comply with all the world.

Then he sat there without saying a word. On the third day, in the pure place of the pleasure garden, in a wide open space, a crescent-shaped seat was prepared. There, the Blessed One, understanding the thoughts, habits, faculties, and nature of that great assembly of people, taught the Dharma in such a way that King Śuddhodana and Devadatta, who desired evil and were arrogant, and the 75,000 Śākyas, excluding those who were arrogant, saw the truth through nectar food and so forth. There, among the many thousands of beings, some directly realized the fruit of entering the stream, some the fruit of returning once, some the fruit of not returning, and some, having renounced and abandoned all afflictions, directly realized the state of an Arhat. Thus, from that assembly, most were inclined towards the Buddha, inclined towards the Dharma, and inclined towards the Sangha, and were established in this way. King Śuddhodana thought, 'My son is so miraculous, so powerful!' He was very happy, but did not see the truth. Devadatta, because he desired evil and was more arrogant than arrogance itself, did not see the truth. Then the Blessed One thought, 'Why does King Śuddhodana not see the truth?' He thought that there were two reasons why he did not see the truth: one was that his mind was too high, and the other was that he was too dejected. Thus, the Blessed One understood that King Śuddhodana's mind was that the young Prince Siddhartha had previously been worshiped by gods and humans, but now he was only worshiped by humans and not by gods, and therefore he had become very dejected. Then the Blessed One thought, 'In order to tame King Śuddhodana, I should teach the Dharma only to the retinue of the gods.' Thinking and knowing this, he generated the worldly mind. The nature of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, is that if they generate the worldly mind, then even creatures like ants can know the mind of the Blessed One with their minds; but if they generate the transcendental mind, then even solitary Buddhas cannot know the mind of the Blessed One with their minds, let alone the Śrāvakas and others.

What is needed? Then Brahma and Indra and other gods thought to themselves: "Why does the Blessed One generate the mind of the world?" And they saw that the Blessed One wished to teach the Dharma only to the retinue of the gods in order to tame King Śuddhodana. Then the gods who dwell in desire and the gods who dwell in form knew the mind of the Blessed One with their minds, just as a man extends his arm from being bent or bends it from being extended. The gods who dwell in desire and the gods who dwell in form disappeared from the world of the gods and arrived in the grove, the place of Brahma, before the Blessed One. The Blessed One also miraculously created a four-gated mansion made of four kinds of jewels, and in those four gates he established the four guardians of the world as gatekeepers. Then the gods who dwell in form circumambulated the Blessed One three times, bowed their heads to the two feet of the Blessed One, and sat down leaning to the right. The gods who dwell in desire also circumambulated the Blessed One three times, bowed their heads to the two feet of the Blessed One, and sat down leaning to the left. King Śuddhodana's daily practice was to go three times a day to see the Blessed One and to serve and honor him. Then King Śuddhodana rose early the next morning and went to the east gate of the mansion, where Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: "Great King, do not enter, but wait. Why? Because the Blessed One teaches the Dharma only to the retinue of the gods, and here mere men cannot comprehend it." "Fair one, who are you?" "Great King, I am the Great King Dhṛtarāṣṭra." Then King Śuddhodana went to the south gate of the mansion, where Virūḍhaka said: "Great King, do not enter, but wait. Why? Because the Blessed One teaches the Dharma only to the retinue of the gods, and here mere men cannot comprehend it." "Fair one, who are you?" "Great King, I
