The great Maudgalyayana's son, taking King Suddhodana, went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, bowed his head at the Blessed One's two feet and sat down to one side. Then, the Blessed One, knowing the mind of King Suddhodana, understanding his thoughts, habits, faculties, and nature, taught the Dharma to King Suddhodana as he sat on that very seat, destroying the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and manifesting the fruit of stream-entry. Having seen the truth, he said: "Venerable, relying on the virtuous friend, the Blessed One, what the Blessed One has done for me, my father has not done for me, my mother has not done for me, the king has not done for me, the gods have not done for me, the ancestors of the past have not done for me, the ascetics and brahmins have not done for me, nor have those who are loving, friends, and relatives. You have dried up the ocean of blood and tears, delivered me from the mountain of bones, closed the gates of the lower realms, opened the gates of heaven and liberation, pulled me out from hell, animals, and hungry ghosts, and placed me among gods and humans, brought the crutch to an end. From beginningless time, the twenty high peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates, accumulated from beginningless time, have been destroyed by the vajra of wisdom, and the fruit of stream-entry has been obtained. Venerable, I have entered the stream. Venerable, I have entered the stream. Venerable, I take refuge in the Blessed One, the Dharma, and the Sangha of monks. I beseech you to accept me as a lay follower. From this day forward, for as long as I live, I take refuge with great joy from the depths of my heart." He also spoke verses: "What a good son can do for his father, in return for his benefit, that you have done for me. My mind has turned towards heaven. What a good son can do for his father, in return for his benefit, that you have done for me. My mind has turned towards liberation. Skillfully extracting me from the lower realms, you have placed me in heaven and liberation with great effort. Your"

He perfectly established the ground. Like a merchant gaining profit, I have also attained the heavenly realm. Relying on virtuous spiritual friends is truly excellent. Then, King Śuddhodana, having seen the truth, said to Śuklabhojana: "Young man, you may rule the kingdom. Now, I, the king, will practice brahmacharya like a sage." "Why, O gods, do you not allow me to rule the kingdom? I have seen the truth." "When did the gods see it?" "Today." "The gods saw it today, but I saw the truth under the umbrella of the one under whose umbrella the Blessed One came here." Then, King Śuddhodana said to Bhṛtabhojana and Amṛtabhojana: "You two young men may rule the kingdom. I will practice brahmacharya like a king-sage. Why do you not allow me to rule the kingdom? I have seen the truth." "When did the gods see it?" "Today." "The gods saw it today, but we saw it much earlier." The king said: "Who is the eldest son of these young men?" "It is Bhadra." King Śuddhodana enthroned the young Bhadra as the king of the Śākyas. At that time, the Blessed One, together with the assembly of śrāvakas, without missing a single day, received umbrella-food offerings in the king's palace. King Śuddhodana saw those who had gone forth with matted hair, whose bodies appeared unsightly due to asceticism. Having seen them, he thought: "These great beings have good minds, but their bodies are not good, as they appear unsightly due to intense asceticism. If the Blessed One's retinue were like the Blessed One himself, then the Blessed One would be beautiful." Then, King Śuddhodana gathered the Śākyas and said: "Wise ones, if the young Sarvārthasiddha had not gone forth, what would he become?" "O gods, he would become a cakravartin king." "What would your sons become?" "O gods, they would become attendants." "Now that the young Sarvārthasiddha has attained amṛta and satisfies beings with amṛta, why do your sons not become attendants?" "O gods, why do they

Should they be ordained? Let them be ordained! The lineage of the divine Shakya clan will be cut off. The king said: Let them be ordained from each and every household! Let it be done according to the command of the gods! King Śuddhodana proclaimed that the young men of the Shakya clan should be ordained from each and every household. When King Śuddhodana made this proclamation, five hundred Shakya youths, including Bhadra, Aniruddha, and Namagra, were ordained. When the Blessed One ordained five hundred Shakya youths, the Blessed One said: Ordination from a high caste is close to gain! Having said this, they gained fame and great respect. The Blessed One thought: These sons of good families have only been ordained for the sake of others, they are only attached to gain and respect. Then, the Blessed One, wishing to cut off the gain and respect that came from them, stayed in Kapilavastu as he pleased, and then went to Shravasti, gradually traveling to Shravasti. In Shravasti, the Blessed One stayed in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. The Vinayavibhanga, the twenty-eighth fascicle. Then, the venerable Charka, in the morning, put on his lower garment, took his bowl and robes, and entered Shravasti for alms. Gradually, while wandering for alms in Shravasti, he went to the house of the householder's wife, Sbedma. The householder's wife, Sbedma, saw the venerable Charka from afar. Having seen him, she beat her chest and said: Charka, why did you abandon me and become ordained? Charka said: The Bodhisattva abandoned sixty thousand women, including the consort Yashodhara, the earth-offering woman, and the deer-born woman, and it is very difficult to become ordained, what is there that I would not abandon you, who are like dust? Charka, I too will be ordained. Do so! I will take good care of the household affairs. Charka came there at the appropriate time and said: Sbedma, will you not be ordained? Sbedma said: There are still household affairs
