Arising and diminishing are impossible. Like this and not other, measure samsara. Then, the wealthy giant thought: This wise teacher has also gone astray, practicing the evil path as the good path. Such a dangerous path should be abandoned by the wise. Thinking this, he spoke the verses: Evil wisdom, evil teacher, inferior teacher, fame seeker, his Dharma is like this, what is his Dharma not like? After speaking, he was overturned like an empty vessel and left. Then, the wealthy giant went to Katyayana's son, and after arriving, he said these words to Katyayana's son: Wise one, what is the rule of your Dharma? What is the instruction to the disciples? What is the fruit of pure conduct? What is the benefit? Katyayana's son said: Young man, I see and speak like this: If someone comes to me and asks: Is there a next life? I will answer him: There is a next life. If he asks me: Is there no next life? I will answer him: There is no next life. If he asks me: Is the next life existent or nonexistent? I will answer him: The next life is existent and nonexistent. If he asks me: Is the next life neither existent nor nonexistent? I will answer him: The next life is neither existent nor nonexistent. Similarly, if someone comes to me and asks: Is the next life like this or not like this? I will answer him: The next life is like this and not like this. If he asks me: Is the next life other or not other? I will answer him: The next life is other and not other. If he asks me: Is the next life neither other nor not other?

If asked, "Is it or is it not?" then I would answer that the other world is neither "not non-existent" nor "non-existent non-non-existent." If asked, "Is the other world both existent and non-existent?" then I would answer that the other world is "both existent and non-existent." Then, the son of the wealthy man thought: This knowledgeable teacher has also gone astray, practicing the evil path as the right path. This path, full of dangers, should be abandoned by the wise. Having thought this, he spoke the verse: The evil-minded one who shows perverted views, is known to show inferior teachings. If his teachings are like this, what teachings are not like this? Having said this, he was overturned like an empty vessel and left. Then, the son of the wealthy man went to where the naked ascetic relative's son was, and said this to the naked ascetic relative's son: Knowledgeable one, what is the nature of your teachings? What is the advice to disciples? What is the fruit of pure conduct? What is the benefit? The naked ascetic said: Young man, I see and say this: Whatever beings experience individually, whatever it may be, all of it arises from causes done in the past. Old karma will be purified by asceticism, and new karma will be prevented by non-action. In this way, there will be no more defilements in the future. If there are no defilements, karma will be exhausted. If karma is exhausted, suffering will be exhausted. If suffering is exhausted, suffering will be brought to an end. Then, the son of the wealthy man thought: This knowledgeable teacher has also gone astray, practicing the evil path as the right path. This path, full of dangers, should be abandoned by the wise. Having thought this, he spoke the verse: The evil-minded one who shows perverted views, is known to show inferior teachings. If his teachings are like this, what teachings are not like this? Having said this, he was overturned like an empty vessel and left. Then, the son of the wealthy man went to his own home, went to the foundation of the upper mansion, rested his cheek on his hand, and in his heart...

Having settled down, he thought to himself: Among the world including gods, demons, and Brahma, and among beings including ascetics and Brahmins, among all including gods and humans, who can completely liberate me from this solitary place of samsara? Is there an ascetic or Brahmin who possesses medicine, mantras, or knowledge-mantras that can liberate me, even if it's just one, two, or four phrases? He pondered in this way. At that time, for the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, there is nothing unknown, nothing unseen, nothing unlearned, and not even a little bit of non-knowing. The Buddhas, the Bhagavat, possess great compassion, engage in benefiting the world, are the sole protectors, the unique heroes, without a second, not speaking in duality, dwelling in tranquility and insight, clarifying the three knowledges, well-trained in the three trainings, skilled in the foundation of the three disciplines, having crossed the four rivers, well-established in the foundation of practicing the four miraculous feet, having long cultivated the four means of gathering, not shaken by the four fearlessnesses, having abandoned the five branches, having completely transcended the five destinies, possessing the six branches, having perfected the six perfections, abiding in the six constant abidings, rich with the flowers of the seven branches of enlightenment, teaching the eightfold path, skilled in the nine successive abidings, possessing the power of the ten strengths, with fame rightly spreading in the ten directions, being especially superior in controlling hundreds of times. Their Dharma nature is to observe the world three times during the day and three times during the night with the Buddha's eye, observing who will decline, who will increase, who will be harmed, who will be afraid, who will be uneasy, who will suffer harm, fear, and uneasiness, who will incline towards evil destinies, who will fall into evil destinies, who has fallen into evil destinies. From which evil path will I raise someone up and place them in higher realms, liberation, and fruition? From whose hands will I pull up those who are drowning in the mud of desire? Whom will I place in the wealth of noble riches, away from the poverty of noble wealth? Whose world will be adorned by the appearance of the Buddha?
