Having truly seen the ten benefits, therefore, for the monastic community, the basis of the training should be established as before, with the section called "To Be Done," etc. My monastic community should recite the basis of the training in this way: Furthermore, if any monk, being angry and harboring hatred, thinking that he must somehow separate this person from the Brahmacharya, then accuses a pure and faultless monk with unfounded accusations of a cause of defeat, whether he is questioned about it at another time or not, that dispute is also unfounded, and the monk is also dwelling in hatred, and if he says that he spoke out of hatred, it is a Saṃghāvaśeṣa. Furthermore, the term "monk" refers to a friend or one born from the earth, or anyone else like that. The term "angry" means quarrelsome. The term "harboring hatred" means being displeased in mind, that is, without having dispelled the quarrel. The term "thinking that he must somehow separate this person from the Brahmacharya" means thinking that he must somehow separate this person from the state of being a monk. The term "pure monk" refers to a strong person or a wealthy person, or anyone else like that. The term "faultless" means without fault in that basis. The term "unfounded" means without the three bases, that is, without the basis of seeing, without the basis of hearing, and without the basis of suspicion. The term "with a cause of defeat" means with any of the four causes, which is said to be something that is not the Dharma but is spoken of in the name of the Dharma. The term "accusation" means making an accusation. The term "at another time" means at another time. The term "whether questioned" means by others. The term "whether not questioned" means after that person himself feels regret, slight regret, great regret, or extreme regret. The term "that dispute" refers to the four disputes that are severed, that is, disputing for the sake of dispute, disputing for the sake of not subduing, disputing for the sake of defeat, and disputing for the sake of action. The term "is unfounded" means that those three bases are absent. The term "the monk is also dwelling in hatred" means wanting to make an accusation. The term "if he says that he spoke out of hatred" means if he says that he has made an accusation. The term "is a Saṃghāvaśeṣa" means as before, therefore it is a Saṃghāvaśeṣa.

Thus it was said. So, how does an offense arise? To slander a pure person, an offense arises in ten ways, but it does not arise in five ways. How does an offense arise in ten ways? Regarding what has not been seen, not been heard, and not been doubted, changing the perception, and changing forbearance, desire, wisdom, discrimination, and view, saying such words: 'I have seen it. I have heard it. I doubt it.' If one says this, everything said becomes a sanghavasesa. Having heard it, he also forgets it, and having doubted it, he also forgets it, but he changes the perception, and changes forbearance, desire, wisdom, discrimination, and view, saying such words: 'I have heard it, and I have not forgotten it. I have doubted it, and I have not forgotten it.' If one says this, everything said becomes a sanghavasesa. Having believed what was heard, saying 'I have seen it,' or not believing what was heard, saying 'I have seen it,' or doubting what was heard, saying 'I have seen it,' or not doubting what was heard, saying 'I have seen it,' or doubting what was doubted, saying 'I have seen it,' if one says this, everything said becomes a sanghavasesa. Thus, an offense arises in ten ways. How does an offense not arise in five ways? Regarding what has not been seen, not been heard, and not been doubted, he does not change the perception, nor does he change forbearance, desire, wisdom, discrimination, and view, saying such words: 'I have seen it. I have heard it. I doubt it.' If one says this, an offense does not arise. Having heard it, he also forgets it, and having doubted it, he also forgets it, but he does not change the perception, nor does he change forbearance, desire, wisdom, discrimination, and view, saying such words: 'I have heard it, and I have not forgotten it. I have doubted it, and I have not forgotten it.' If one says this, an offense does not arise. Thus, an offense does not arise in five ways. Just as to slander a pure person, an offense arises in ten ways, and an offense does not arise in five ways, so also to slander a pure person disguised as an impure person, an offense arises in ten ways, and an offense does not arise in five ways. To slander an impure person, an offense arises in eleven ways, and in six ways
