He held it with mindfulness and being mindful. The Bhikshuni friend was defeated by her own lies. What did the Bhikkhu friend and Saraswati (earth goddess) see? How did they see it, and where did they see it? For what reason did you two arrive there and see it there? Please speak and investigate thoroughly. After we, many Bhikkhus, spoke and investigated thoroughly, the two of them said, "Venerable ones! Venerable ones, Gyadbu Nor did not commit the defeat of unchaste conduct. Like this, venerable ones, Gyadbu Nor threatened us twice with bad food that would decay if we ate it, which was very unpleasant, so we two spoke to the venerable Gyadbu Nor with malice. It was only spoken out of hatred, delusion, and fear. Venerable ones, Gyadbu Nor did not commit the defeat of unchaste conduct. Like this, the Bhikkhu is pure and without fault," they reported. Bhikkhus, why did those two foolish people knowingly tell lies for the sake of a small amount of wealth? Then, at that time, the Blessed One spoke two verses: A being who speaks falsely has transgressed one Dharma, and by severing the next world, there is no evil that this person will not do. It is better to eat an iron ball that is like a burning flame than to eat alms from the country without properly subduing oneself. At that time, the gods dwelling in the sky said "Evil," the food is evil, unbearable, extremely unbearable. Like this, the slandered Bhikkhus, for the sake of a small amount of wealth, groundlessly accuse the pure and faultless Bhikkhus with a Dharma that leads to defeat. Again, he said: In the world, who with wisdom would delight in samsara? Even with the wealth of liberation from the three existences, it is because of obtaining slander. Then, because of this event and this origin and this occasion, the Blessed One gathered the Sangha of Bhikkhus, and so on, as before. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, cultivate knowingly, and so on.

It is the same as before. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, rebuked the two monks, Mitra and Bhumija, saying, "Foolish men, is it true that you two have falsely accused pure and faultless monks, slandering them with baseless accusations of defeat?" The monks replied, "Yes." The Buddha, the Bhagavan, rebuked them, saying, "It is not in accordance with the conduct of a mendicant, it is not agreeable, it is not proper, it is not the work of one who has gone forth." Then, the Bhagavan addressed the monks, saying, "Monks, there are three types of people who, if not abandoned, will go to bad rebirths and to the hells. Which three? Here, if a person indulges in desires and also commits sinful deeds, this person, if not abandoned, will go to bad rebirths and to the hells; this is the first type of person. Furthermore, if a person is himself immoral and speaks as if controlling others with morality, this person, if not abandoned, will go to bad rebirths and to the hells; this is the second type of person. Furthermore, if a person himself engages in impure conduct and falsely accuses others of engaging in impure conduct, slandering them with doctrines that lead to defeat, this person, if not abandoned, will go to bad rebirths and to the hells; this is the third type of person." The Bhagavan spoke thus. After the Sugata had spoken these words, the Teacher spoke again as follows: If one expresses faults with words, From the mouth of a person, An axe is born, and with it, One will also cut oneself. Whoever praises what should be blamed, And blames what should be praised, From his mouth strife arises, One with strife does not experience happiness. Here, gambling causes one to lose one's wealth, That strife is only insignificant. Whoever makes the Sugata extremely angry, That strife here is very great. If one relies on speech and mind, the basis of sin, which the noble ones condemn, For hundreds of millions of billions and countless times thirty-six and five, One will go to the hells. Then, the Bhagavan rebuked them in various ways, and addressed the monks, saying, "Monks, thus it is."
