Having realized and attained in that very life through the most excellent direct knowledge, it is understood that my birth is exhausted, the holy life has been lived, the task has been done, and there is nothing more to know beyond this existence. An Arhat, free from desire in the three realms, regarding clods and gold as equal, possessing a mind equal to the sky and the palm of the hand, like placing sandalwood, having pierced the eggshell with wisdom, and having attained wisdom, direct knowledge, and individual perfect knowledge. Turning one's back on the gains and honors of existence and desire, being worshipped, remembered, and spoken of in the presence of the gods with power and near power. The Vinayavibhaṅga, the twentieth fascicle. When the Buddha, the Bhagavan, the Tathagata, was alive and dwelling, according to the Dharma, the Śrāvakas had two great assemblies: one was at the full moon of the middle summer month, near the time of entering the summer retreat; the second was at the full moon of the middle autumn month. Likewise, the great Śrāvakas also had two great assemblies of Śrāvakas: one was at the full moon of the middle summer month, near the time of entering the summer retreat; the second was at the full moon of the middle autumn month. Among them, those who received instructions at the full moon of the middle summer month, near the time of entering the summer retreat, and promised to dwell in villages, cities, regions, and royal palaces, when they arrived at the full moon of the middle autumn month, they would relate what they had obtained. In order to enable those who had not obtained it to obtain it, they would seek the recitation and writing of the Sutras, Vinaya, and Abhidharma below. Then, the companions of the venerable Aśvajit, and those lay followers who had promised to dwell in the countryside, after the three months of summer had passed, being endowed with Dharma robes, having completed their Dharma robes, and carrying their alms bowls and Dharma robes, went to where the venerable Aśvajit was, bowed their heads at the feet of the venerable Aśvajit, and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, some of them would relate what they had obtained. Some would seek the Sutras, Vinaya, and Dharma.

They seek the recitations and thorough inquiries of those people. The Venerable Aśvajit, having rightly cut off their doubts and uncertainties about the three baskets and the path of meditation, they began to speak to each other. "Venerables, we have seen the preceptor and have finished serving and honoring him. Now we wish to serve and honor the Bhagavan in Rajagriha." Then, the Venerable Ghaṭabudhana, having heard their conversation, arose and knew the desire, thinking, "Alas! I also should see the Bhagavan." Then he went to where the Venerable Aśvajit was, and having arrived, he bowed his head at the feet of the Venerable Aśvajit, and said this to the Venerable Aśvajit: "Preceptor, please know. I have seen the Bhagavan through the door of the Dharma body. Because I have not seen him through the door of the form body, what should I do if I wish to see the form body of the Bhagavan?" The Venerable Aśvajit said: "Boy, do not miss seeing him. Boy, the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas, and their appearance are as rare as the Udumbara flower, so do likewise." Then, the Venerable Ghaṭabudhana, having been permitted by the preceptor, and having generated joy in his mind with the wise thought of wanting to see the Bhagavan, after that night had passed, in the early morning he put on his lower garment, took his bowl and Dharma robes, and went to Siggabung to beg for alms. After begging for alms in Siggabung in order, having done the work of eating, and returning from the later alms begging, having settled the place of enjoyment as it was, he took his bowl and Dharma robes, and together with the same preceptor and the same Acharya, he traveled and went to where Rajagriha was, gradually traveling and going, and finally arrived at Rajagriha. Then, the Venerable Ghaṭabudhana settled his bowl and Dharma robes, washed his feet, and went to where the Bhagavan was. At that time, the Bhagavan was dwelling in front of many hundreds of monks, teaching the Dharma, and the Bhagavan to the Venerable Ghaṭa
