The venerable Nearsider was staying for the purpose of reliance near a tree that was not very tall. The venerable Shariputra heard such words spoken by the venerable Nearsider. Having heard, he went to where the venerable Nearsider was, and having arrived, he said this to the venerable Nearsider: I have not seen anyone whose appearance has changed like the venerable Nearsider, or whose senses have become confused. However, the venerable Nearsider says this: Venerable ones, snake venom quickly spreads through my body, burning, sharp, and highly poisonous. For example, something as thin as an eye ointment stick falls. Alas, venerable ones, starting from the pores of the body, right here, for example, crush it like wine dregs, do not let it become outside the monastery. The venerable Shariputra says to whom: The eye is mine. The eye is mine. The ear and ear, tongue and body and mind are mine. The mind is mine. Form is mine. Form is mine. Sound and, smell and, taste and, touch and, dharma are mine. Dharma is mine. The earth element is mine. The earth element is mine. The water element and, the fire element and, the wind element and, the space element and, the consciousness element are mine. The consciousness element is mine. The aggregate of form is mine. The aggregate of form is mine. The aggregate of feeling and, the aggregate of perception and, the aggregate of formation and, the aggregate of consciousness are mine. The aggregate of consciousness is mine, there is such a saying. Appearance changes, or the confusion of the senses will occur. Venerable Shariputra, for me, the eye is mine. The eye is mine. The ear and nose and tongue and body and mind are mine. The mind is mine. Form is mine. Form is mine. Sound and smell and taste and touch and dharma are mine. Dharma is mine. The earth element is mine. The earth element is mine. The water element and the fire element and the wind element and the space element and the consciousness element are mine.

Yes. The realm of consciousness is mine. The skandha of form is me. The skandha of form is mine. The skandha of feeling, the skandha of perception, the skandha of formation, and the skandha of consciousness are me. There is no such thing as the skandha of consciousness being mine. How could my appearance change? How could the faculties become diverse? The venerable Nearsayer has for a long time abandoned and completely understood the clinging to self, the clinging to what is mine, the pride of thinking "mine," as well as the manifest clinging and latent tendencies, cutting them off like the head of a palm tree, uprooting them so that they no longer appear, and will not arise again in the future. How could your appearance change or your faculties become diverse? Then, the venerable Shariputra, together with many monks, carried the remains of the venerable Nearsayer's body from the charnel ground to outside the monastery. The venerable Nearsayer's body was like, for example, mash for making beer, broken into a hundred pieces. Then, the venerable Shariputra spoke the following verses at that time: Brahmacharya is well practiced, The path itself is well cultivated, At the end of life, there is joy, Like being free from illness. Brahmacharya is well practiced, The path itself is well cultivated, At the end of life, there is joy, Like abandoning a vessel of poison. Brahmacharya is well practiced, The path itself is well cultivated, Like being freed from a burning house, At the end of death, there is no sorrow. Brahmacharya is well practiced, The path itself is well cultivated, When one sees the world with wisdom, As if it were grass and trees, At that time, from the absence of continuity, One does not desire anything else. Then, the venerable Shariputra, having made an offering of the body to the venerable Nearsayer's body, went to where the Blessed One was, and upon arriving, bowed his head at the feet of the Blessed One, and sat down to one side. Having sat down to one side, the venerable Shariputra said this to the Blessed One: Venerable, the body of the venerable Nearsayer is like snake venom spreading quickly, burning
