daṃ. Those people said, "Venerables, we have two names. In the future, we will be called 'sons of good family,' and inside, we will be called 'thieves.' It is useless for you to give us names. Those cunning people robbed the monks and ran away. Those robbed monks discussed, 'O venerable ones, the Blessed One said to squeeze out even the remnants.' For the time being, what if we have this householder give alms to the Sangha of monks in the four directions? What if we have alms given to us? If we flee to Śrāvastī, there each of us will be provided with monastic robes by those who practice brahmacharya, and we will not be impoverished." They discussed like this. How should we flee? We should flee under cover of night and travel hidden during the day. Thinking this, they fled without even looking at the householder. After some time, they finally reached Śrāvastī. The monks, who did not sleep in the early or late parts of the night but diligently practiced, saw those monks wandering naked near the door and said, "Naked fellows, what do you want here? This is not your monastery, nor is it a dwelling place." Those people said, "Venerable ones, we are not naked." "Then who are you?" "We are monks." "Are such people monks? What are those who were robbed by thieves like? What are your names?" "Saṃgha Rescue." "Buddha Rescue." "Dharma Rescue." "Sangha Rescue." "Venerable ones, welcome!" They opened the door and let those monks in. Some gave them monastic robes, some gave them belts, some gave them alms bowls, some gave them water filters. According to the distribution, everyone was distributed. At that time, the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed, "The door of the monastery should not be opened carelessly to strangers. If someone wants to enter the door at night, ask for their name and lineage, and if you know them, open the door, and if you do not know them, do not open the door." Furthermore,

When it comes to listening to the Dharma, a monk named Meltsewa should be appointed. If thieves come, strike the gaṇḍī (犍椎, gaṇḍī, gandi, a percussion instrument). Strike the handle of the gaṇḍī (犍椎柄, gaṇḍī theu, gandi theu, the handle of the gaṇḍī). Strike the Wheel of Time (时轮, dus kyi 'khor lo, kalacakra, wheel of time). Also, the monastic skirt, the seven-piece robe, the five-piece robe, the bowl, the gong, the water bottle, the whip, and the small water bottle should all be sounded. Furthermore, I shall establish the rules that the resident monks of the monastic community should observe. When the resident monks of the monastic community are about to listen to the Dharma, they should ask the supervisor: 'Venerable one, have you closed the door of the temple? Have you checked it? Have you invited the Dharma speaker? Have you cleaned the toilet?' If the resident monks of the monastic community do not properly accept and abide by these rules, they will commit a serious offense. Then, the monks who had been robbed by thieves were told by the other monks: 'Venerable ones, we have distributed to you according to your due share, but you are still troubled by the robes. The householder whose temple you were robbed in is a faithful, good, and virtuous person, so stay in his temple. He will help you with robes and free you from trouble.' Those monks completely agreed and began to discuss with each other: 'Venerable ones, it is good to say that these practitioners of pure conduct are good. We came without regard for the householder, and if we go back there again, he will also distribute robes to us.' So they went back there again. Then, the householder saw them and said: 'Noble ones, why did you leave without acknowledging me?' The monks said: 'Householder, the Blessed One said that the remainder should be left.' Therefore, we suddenly thought that it would be better to first have this householder donate to the monastic community of monks from the four directions, and then do other things. What good would it do to donate to us? We might as well go to Śrāvastī (舍卫城, mnyan yod, Śrāvastī, famous name). There, the practitioners of pure conduct will
