Those people in the vicinity of these places, whoever has a mind for giving and work, all give and act towards this temple, therefore, the monks who have vowed to stay here during the summer retreat have obtained many possessions. If you do not believe, go and see, and you will see it for yourself. If that is the case, go and see for yourself, and we will come later. He said: Good, do so, and I will go. Having said that, he tidied up his clothes, stood up, and then bowed to the stupa with a metered tone, and entered the temple. As he reached the doorway, he saw an old man sitting there, and that deceiver bowed to his feet and began to ask: Venerable, this temple, which is both beautiful and attractive, and has become a staircase to heaven, whose is it? Well, it belongs to a certain householder. Venerable, is this a temple? Or is it a slum? Well, what is a temple like? What is a slum like? Venerable, where there are abundant utensils, that is a temple. Where there are no utensils, that is a slum. Well, then this is a temple, not a slum. Because there are abundant utensils here, it is not a place without utensils. Venerable, no one who eats food eats dirt, and no one who wears clothes wears bark, do you have a few clothes here? That old man was of an upright nature, so he took the hand of that deceiver, led him into the dwelling, and said: Well, look at this rack full of clothes. Venerable, is this yours? Or is it the Sangha's? Well, this belongs to me personally. Venerable, then you must be an elder of the Sangha, or a Dharma speaker? Well, I am neither an elder of the Sangha nor a Dharma speaker, but I am a newly ordained novice monk in the Sangha. Venerable, if possible, are there a few dwellings for the Sangha here? Well, there are many, and for the time being, even in my room, the seven things can be obtained. Venerable, please let me see that too.

Thus he spoke. In this monastery, those who do not prostrate, are they to be placed in a potter's vessel? Or are they to be placed in a copper vessel? Good-faced one, have you seen these dwellings? Noble one, I have seen them. Good-faced one, these dwellings are filled with copper vessels. The deceitful one thought, 'I have completely seduced their minds, now I shall leave.' Then the deceitful one said, 'Noble one, the complete decline of your virtue is the complete decline of my benefit, so for my sake, I shall also leave, now I shall leave.' Good-faced one, so be it. The deceitful one prostrated at the feet of that elderly elder and left. That deceitful one went to those thieves and said: Lotus-eyed ones, a great ship filled with all kinds of goods is on the shore, rob it, rob it! Then one of them said: It is said that the sixty ordained ones who reside there are all masters of the Abhidhamma. Therefore, we cannot destroy them in that way. Whenever they listen to the Dharma at night, that is when we shall destroy them. Others said: On what day will they listen to the Dharma? He said: It will be on the eighth and fourteenth. Of those, the eighth has already passed, so it will be on the fourteenth. Those people counted the days on their fingers, waiting until the fourteenth arrived. The abbot of the Sangha recited the Pratimoksha Sutra, and the Sangha performed the Uposatha. The Dharma speaker ascended the lion throne and said: The supreme among men, the tamer, the guide, The Tathagata who cuts the bonds of all fetters, Whose senses are pacified, completely pacified, skilled in peace, Abiding in Shravasti, acting according to the command He spoke. Just as he was about to begin speaking, those deceitful ones knocked on the door. Those monks, sensing this, said: Wise ones, who are you? Noble ones, we are sons of good families. The monks thought: A crowd of people has come from the mountains, surely they have come to listen to the Dharma, let us open the door. So they opened the door, and those people entered. Just as they were about to begin destroying, The monks said: Wise ones, you said: We are sons of good families, But now you are destroying us?
