I, merchants from different lands, knowledgeable people, listen! In my country, no one is allowed to rob or steal. Whoever robs or steals in my country, I will make them homeless. The stolen goods of those who have been robbed will be given from my storehouse and granary, so it was proclaimed with the sound of drums. When the Blessed One subdued the King Prasenajit of Kosala with the sutra of the example of the young King Prasenajit. King Prasenajit of Kosala also, while residing in Shravasti, said this in Shravasti, along with the royal retinue and, merchants from different lands, knowledgeable people, listen! In my country, no one is allowed to rob or steal. Whoever robs or steals in my country, I will make them subject to the penalty of death. The stolen goods of those who have been robbed will be given from my storehouse and granary, so it was proclaimed with the sound of drums. In the meantime, the robbers who lived in the land of Magadha and the robbers who lived in the land of Kosala gathered together in the middle of the border. In short, the robbers who lived in the land of Magadha and the robbers who lived in the land of Kosala gathered in the middle of the border and conspired to commit crimes together, and such a sound spread everywhere. After hearing this, they started to go to the land of Kosala with goods from the land of Magadha, and from the land of Kosala they also started to go to the land of Magadha with goods. After some time, the goods from the land of Magadha arrived in the land of Kosala, and when they crossed the border and entered the land of Kosala, the leader said: Knowledgeable people, King Prasenajit of Kosala is known as fierce, cruel, strong, brave, and capable. Even if the goods are robbed by robbers, he can give us the stolen goods, so let's put down the goods! The merchants said: Leader, if that is the case, let's do it that way! So they put down the goods. The robbers were lying in ambush, and when they saw the merchants putting down the goods, they said

After that, those with knowledge destroyed the unity with divisive words, and they destroyed the unity of entering the Sala Temple. There, some merchants were killed, and some scattered. Those who scattered, with their heads filled with dust, ran to King Bright of Kosala and said: O God, we merchants are not allowed to do business in your country. What happened? O God, we were robbed by robbers. The king commanded General Holy Birth: Young man, go and quickly bring back the robbers and the stolen goods! General Holy Birth, having heard from King Bright of Kosala, "According to God's will," gathered the four divisions of the army—elephant troops, cavalry, chariot troops, and infantry—and quickly went to the Sala Temple. At that time, the robbers had entered the very dense Sala Temple, and were carelessly dividing the stolen goods. Holy Birth also attacked them, and there some robbers were killed, some scattered, and sixty robbers were captured alive. After that, having won the battle, he took the robbers and the stolen goods and went before King Bright of Kosala, prostrated himself at his feet and said: O God, these are the robbers, and these are the stolen goods. The king said to the robbers: O knowledgeable ones, I have said that no one is allowed to rob in my country. Anyone who robs in my country, I will sentence to death. Haven't you heard the announcement that I will give alms from my storehouse and granary to those who have been robbed? O God, we have heard. Then why did you rob these merchants? O God, we had no livelihood. Even so, why did you kill others? O God, to show terror. I will also show you such terror as has never been shown before. That cruel king commanded the ministers: O knowledgeable ones, today take these robbers to the execution ground.

Cut off their hands and feet! Give back what was stolen from these merchants from my treasury! Those ministers took those robbers to the execution ground and cut off their hands and feet. Then, they gave the stolen goods to the merchants from the king's treasury. The Blessed One told the monks: Again and again, discern separately your own decline and the decline of others! Again and again, discern separately your own prosperity and the prosperity of others! Why is that? Monks, your own decline and the decline of others are places of revulsion, and your own prosperity and the prosperity of others are also places of revulsion. Having said this, the monks stood up and began to walk around the execution ground. The nuns also stood up and began to walk around the cemetery. At that time, many people went to the cemetery, and they began to carefully examine those robbers. Another person also observed them, sitting and saying: If some who desire benefit were to pour salt medicine juice into these people, then these people, having died from here, would be able to drink the breast milk of young mothers. Among those nuns, there was a nun named Foster Mother, who was fat, foolish, and not bright. Having heard that, she thought: If I were to completely lose such a collection of merit, having already been well ordained in the Dharma and Vinaya spoken by the Blessed One, what would I gain? I should go and get salt medicine juice and pour it into them. Then, the nun Foster Mother came out from among the nuns, returned to her dwelling, and then took a bottle of salt medicine juice and sixty small bowls, and went to the robbers. Those robbers, oppressed by feelings of suffering, disregarding their lives, and tormented by thirst, thought: Alas, if this noble woman could quench our thirst from that bottle, how wonderful that would be! Foster Mother, with the thought of merit, gave each one a small bowl and distributed the salt medicine juice. Whoever drank it died immediately, and in this way, all of them died.
