Therefore, he taught the Dharma such as taking refuge and keeping the precepts. That merchant prostrated to his son's feet and invited him to have a meal at his house the next day. The son agreed without saying a word. Afterwards, the merchant prostrated to his son's feet and left. On the way, he thought: I invited my son rashly without consulting him. My wife is fierce, stubborn, and strong, I'm afraid she won't treat him well, what should I do? He also thought: Now that I have invited him, there is nothing I can do. I should try to arrange things in every way possible with words that will please and delight my wife. So, he went home and said to his wife: Good wife, are the words wandering, death, and renunciation the same in meaning? Or are there any subtle differences between them? The wife said: My lord, there are no subtle differences between them. The merchant said: Good wife, others say: Your son has become an excellent monk, he has studied the Tripitaka from the borderlands and has come to Jeta Grove. He is not only proficient in the Tripitaka, but also able to preach the Dharma, and is a learned person with the wisdom of liberation. The wife said: My lord, if that is the case, why not invite him directly? Good wife, since you have already invited him, prepare the food! The wife, freed from the hatred towards her son, prepared all the food suitable for cold dishes that day, and prepared all the food suitable for hot dishes the next day, and sent someone to inform the monk: Venerable, the time for the meal has arrived, please come. That monk put on his robes in the morning, took his bowl and Dharma robes, and went to his father's house. After arriving, he sat down on the prepared seat. Then, that merchant and his wife together personally offered food with their own hands, satisfying the monk and handing it to him personally. When they knew that he was full and had accepted the offerings,

Sa. Shaking his hands and putting down the alms bowl, he prostrated at the feet and sat in front to listen to the Dharma. He (the monk) also preached the Dharma he had heard to that old woman, so that she could also take refuge and uphold the precepts, and in this way he preached the Dharma. He tamed that household in such a way that it became like a well for monks and nuns. Whatever they thought of giving and doing, they thought of the monks and nuns. Later, at some point, the merchant's four elements became unbalanced and he fell ill. His son, hearing the news that it was beneficial to me, thought: I should go and preach the Dharma to my father that will make him very happy. So, that monk went to his father at an appropriate time and said: Father, do not fail to do what should be done. Like this, you, relying on me, the virtuous friend, have taken refuge in the Buddha, taken refuge in the Dharma and the Sangha, and have taken the precepts, given alms, and done good deeds. If you go to another place, there will be a good harvest, heaven will be like being separated by silk, liberation will be like being obscured by a curtain, and after the body is destroyed, you will be reborn among the gods. In this way, he preached the Dharma. The merchant said: Son, it is so. It is so, I, relying on you, the virtuous friend, have taken refuge in the Buddha, taken refuge in the Dharma and the Sangha, and have taken the precepts, given alms, and done good deeds. If I go to another place, there will be a good harvest, heaven will be like being separated by silk, liberation will be like being obscured by a curtain, and after the body is destroyed, I will be reborn among the gods. That merchant's son left after preaching the Dharma to his father in this way. That merchant had the thought: My son is proficient in the three baskets, preaches the Dharma, has the fearlessness of wisdom and liberation, and will not say anything else, I am oppressed by the feeling of suffering, this is extraordinary, I should kill myself. Then he thought again, if I try to end myself, it will be painful, therefore I should lose my life

Thinking about who would have the ability to harm me? He had a serving maid named "Kyongma" (Tibetan: མ་སྐྱོང་མ), who was fat, stupid, and clumsy. That merchant thought: This Kyongma is fat, stupid, and clumsy, she might be able to make me lose my life, but others cannot. Not far from that merchant's house, a family was taking a bride. That merchant's wife, along with the serving maid Kyongma, went to the banquet as guests. After the wedding and the feast were over, the merchant's wife said to Kyongma: Kyongma, you go back and watch over the merchant, don't let him fall asleep, I will come back later. Kyongma listened to the mistress's words, returned home, and went to the merchant. The merchant said: Kyongma, what are you doing here? Kyongma said: Master, the eldest son of so-and-so's family is taking a bride, I went to see if it was suitable. Kyongma, is taking a bride good? Master, it's good. If I were to marry you off like that, would you be happy? Master, I would be happy. If that's the case, if you do as I say, I will know that you will be happy. Kyongma said: Master, I will do as you say. Kyongma, if that's the case, a non-human has entered my stomach, get it out. Master, how should I do it? Kyongma, first, pinch my two feet, then my two ankles, then my two knees, then my two thighs, then my waist, then my stomach, then my chest, then pinch my throat, but if I shout, don't let go. That stupid Kyongma did just that, she pinched tightly. The merchant thought: Alas, it doesn't matter if I am strangled to death by Kyongma. Kyongma pinched even tighter. The god spoke a verse: What is held by a person of evil wisdom, is like the firm grip of a turtle. Since Kyongma has seized you, you will not see the path to life. That merchant died just like that. Kyongma covered him with a cloth and left him there. After that, the merchant's wife came back and said: Kyongma, you are here.
