Please restore it according to the Dharma. I have not seen any transgression! Venerable ones, the Blessed One said that because no transgression was seen, the act of expulsion should be performed. Who is in charge of this? Strike the ghaṇṭā! Saying that the act of expulsion should be performed, they went to the one in charge and said: Venerable ones, strike the ghaṇṭā! Why, because of a minor matter, a transgression has occurred, and it is not restored according to the Dharma, so the act of expulsion should be performed. At that time, the venerable Śāriputra was the abbot of the Saṃgha, and wouldn't there be some inconsistencies with the teachings due to the expedient means of the Dharma? Because the universally practiced Dharma was being undermined, he rebuked the one in charge: Venerable ones, who can fully abide? Or fundamentally fully abide? Or be satisfied? Or fundamentally be satisfied? Or expel? No one does that! For example, the venerable Pilinda has committed a transgression, and it is not restored according to the Dharma, but the act of expulsion is performed in order not to see the transgression. Venerable ones, it is not appropriate to speak loudly to the abbot Bhikṣu, for the Buddha, the Blessed One, is the all-knowing, the all-seeing, possessing unsurpassed power over knowledge and knowable things, the one who cuts off all doubts, so go to him now and ask about this matter! Accept whatever the Blessed One prophesies to you! At that time, the Bhikṣus entreated the Blessed One. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, ask knowingly, so the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, rebuked the venerable son of Pilinda: Son of Pilinda, with what kind of thought did you display the miracle? Venerable, I thought this: If I did not think of the poor, the poor would also temporarily experience the suffering arising from the loss of wealth, and the non-believers would also find an opportunity, and the believers would also not fully protect this Dharma that should be given as alms, so who would think of giving alms and acting towards the Bhikṣus, the sons of the Śākyas, in the future? It would become another situation, so I displayed the miracle.

Earth. The Blessed One said: Monks, the son of Pilinda did not fall into transgression by manifesting such a miracle with such an intention. The monks became doubtful and, in order to dispel all doubts, asked the Blessed Buddha: Venerable and long-lived Norchen saw that the Sangha of monks was without fault and without blisters, and that the blisters arose in the first place because of taking what was not given. The Blessed One said: Monks, not only now, but also in the past, he first took out the blisters from a world without fault or blisters because of taking what was not given, listen. Monks, there is also a time when this world is destroyed. When the world is destroyed, most sentient beings are born in the realm of the gods of clear light. There, they have a body, are born of mind, are complete, their faculties are not diminished, they have all limbs and minor limbs, are beautiful and have color, emit light from themselves, travel in the sky, eat joy, have food of joy, are long-lived and dwell for a long time. From that time on, this great world became only water and only ocean. On top of the great earth that had become only water and only ocean, the wind caused foam to form everywhere, to be dense everywhere, and to spread everywhere. For example, when boiled milk cools, the wind causes foam to form everywhere, to be dense everywhere, and to spread everywhere. Similarly, on top of the great earth that had become only water and only ocean, the wind also caused foam to form everywhere, to be dense everywhere, and to spread everywhere. That is the essence of the earth, perfect in color, perfect in smell, and perfect in taste. The color is like this, for example, like butter. The taste is like this, for example, like unboiled honey. Monks, there is also a time when this world is formed. When the world is formed, from the ranks of the gods of clear light, some sentient beings die, their karma is exhausted, and their merit is exhausted.

Thereafter, having died and been reborn, they will come to have the same fate as people in this way. Here, too, there are those with colored bodies born from mind, without anything incomplete, with senses not diminished, possessing all limbs and bodies, possessing beautiful colors, emitting light from themselves, walking in the sky, eating joy, possessing food of joy, long-lived and abiding for a long time. At that time, the sun and moon had not yet appeared in the world. Stars had not yet appeared in the world. Night and day had not yet appeared. Moments, instants, and brief periods had not yet appeared. Months, half-months, seasons, and years had not yet appeared. There were no women, and there were no men, but they were merely counted as sentient beings, sentient beings. Then, a sentient being with a greedy nature tasted the essence of the earth with the tip of its finger. As it tasted, so it desired. As it desired, so it ate by means of a lump of food. Other sentient beings also saw that sentient being tasting the essence of the earth with the tip of its finger, and as it tasted, so it desired, and as it desired, so it ate by means of a lump of food. Having seen this, those sentient beings thought, "Alas, that is good! Alas, that is excellent! Let us also taste the essence of the earth with the tip of our fingers," and thinking this, they also tasted the essence of the earth with the tip of their fingers. As they tasted, so they desired. As they desired, so they ate by means of a lump of food. Because those sentient beings ate the essence of the earth by means of a lump of food, therefore, hardness and heaviness arose in their bodies, and their color, which was bright and beautiful, also disappeared. Darkness also arose in the world. Monks, by the law of nature, when darkness arises in the world, the sun and moon will also arise in the world. Stars, nights, days, and moments will appear in the world.
