Having seen him, he washed his hands and feet and sat on the prepared seat. Then, the King of Magadha, 'Essence of Skillful Form,' bowed his head to the feet of the Venerable Pilindavatsa and sat to one side. Having sat down, the King of Magadha, 'Essence of Skillful Form,' said to the Venerable Pilindavatsa: "Venerable, are you personally repairing the dilapidated and crumbling monastery?" "Great King, renunciates do it themselves. We are renunciates, who else would do it?" "Venerable, if that is so, I will offer the Venerable a long robe." "Great King, enough." He said this four times, and the fifth time he said the same thing: "I will offer the Venerable a long robe." Then, one who lived with the Venerable Pilindavatsa, who spoke truthfully, honestly, and dared to speak directly, said: "Great King, ever since the Great King offered robes to the Khenpo, if the Khenpo were to abandon this monastery, it would probably have collapsed by now." The king said: "Venerable, have we repeatedly promised?" "Great King, not once, but like this, this is the fifth time." Because that king was forgetful, whatever that king did, whatever he promised, was recorded by the people outside, so that king said to that person: "Hey, inner minister, is it true that I have repeatedly promised?" "Yes, god, this is the fifth time." "If that is so, I am afraid I will be subject to punishment."

The venerable Pilindavatsa accepted those servants, and those servants were repeatedly placed to work in the royal palace, and they said to the venerable Pilindavatsa: Noble one, we were offered to the noble ones as attendants, if we are happy, why do we repeatedly do chores in the royal palace? Good people, do not quarrel, and I will report to the king. At another time, the king who appeared in Magadha, named Skillful Form Strength, also came to the residence of the venerable Pilindavatsa, prostrated at his feet, and sat in front of the venerable Pilindavatsa, the venerable Pilindavatsa said: Great King, you offered servants for the benefit of the Sangha, are you not regretful? Noble one, I have no regret at all. Then, why do you let those servants work in the royal palace again? The king sat on that seat and instructed the ministers: Wise men, from now on, do not let the attendants of the noble ones work in the royal palace. When the ministers instructed anyone to work in the royal palace, they said: We belong to the noble ones. The ministers said to the king: God, it is ineffective to say to anyone, if you look for people to do chores in the royal palace, they will all say that we belong to the noble ones. 被安置在宫殿里做工后，他们又对具寿毕陵伽婆蹉说道：圣者，如果我们也能像那样在国王的宫殿里做些零活，圣者您没有禀告吗？贤善者们，请禀告吧，还要禀告啊！具寿毕陵伽婆蹉对来自摩揭陀国的国王，工巧善于塑像的质多塞纳也像那样到来的人说道：大国王，您怎么了？您也感到后悔了吗？圣者，我有什么过错呢？仆人们也像那样被安置做工了。圣者，无论对谁禀告都无济于事，无论对谁禀告，他们都会说：这些人是我们的圣者们的。唉！如果能把圣者们的臣民的住所另外建造起来，就能知道这些是国王的，这些是圣者们的了。具寿毕陵伽婆蹉说道：我将禀告世尊。之后，具寿毕陵伽婆蹉将此事详细地禀告了世尊，世尊开示道：既然如此，就允许建造臣民的住所吧。众比丘不知道在哪里建造臣民的住所，世尊开示道：在王宫外面和光明园林外面之间，凡是呼唤的声音能够听到的地方，能够成办僧团之事的地方，就在那里建造臣民的住所。众比丘告诫各位大臣：世尊开示说，就在这个方向建造臣民的住所吧，你们要知道这件事。各位大臣在王舍城敲响钟声，宣告说：凡是圣者们的长随，都要知道在王舍城外面和光明园林外面之间居住是有罪的，现在就在那里建造住所吧。他们就到那里建造住所了。建造了臣民的住所后，他们就到寺院里做工，众比丘对他们说：这个工作是允许的，你们可以做，这个是不允许的，你们不可以做，这样分配工作。

After being placed to work in the palace, they again said to the Venerable Pilindavatsa: "Venerable, if we could also do some odd jobs in the king's palace like that, haven't you informed the Venerable? O Good Ones, please inform, and inform again!" The Venerable Pilindavatsa said to King Bimbisara of Magadha, who was skilled in crafts and good at sculpting, who had also come like that: "Great King, what's wrong? Have you also come to regret it?" "Venerable, what mistake have I made? The servants have also been placed to work like that. Venerable, it's no use informing anyone, for whoever you inform, they will say, 'These people belong to our Venerables.' Alas! If the dwellings of the Venerables' subjects could be built separately, then it would be known that these belong to the king, and these belong to the Venerables." The Venerable Pilindavatsa said: "I will report to the Blessed One." Then, the Venerable Pilindavatsa reported the matter in detail to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: "Since that is the case, allow the building of the subjects' dwellings." The monks did not know where to build the subjects' dwellings, and the Blessed One instructed: "Between the outside of the royal palace and the outside of the Bright Grove, wherever the sound of a call can be heard, where the affairs of the Sangha can be accomplished, build the subjects' dwellings there." The monks instructed the ministers: "The Blessed One has instructed that the subjects' dwellings should be built in this direction, you should know this." The ministers had the sound of a bell proclaimed in Rajagriha, saying: "Whoever is a follower of the Venerables should know that it is a crime to live between the outside of Rajagriha and the outside of the Bright Grove, so build dwellings there now." They went there and built the dwellings. After building the subjects' dwellings, they went to the monastery to work, and the monks said to them: "This work is permissible, you may do it; this is not permissible, you may not do it," thus assigning the work.
