If one offers vows thinking it is solitary, it should be said that the vows have not been offered. If one offers vows thinking it is solitary but not solitary, it should be said that the vows have not been offered. If one offers vows thinking it is not solitary but solitary, it should be said that the vows have not been offered. If a central person offers vows to a central person using borderland language, and if the central person does not understand the borderland language spoken, it should be said that the vows have not been offered. If a borderland person offers vows to a borderland person using central language, and if the borderland person does not understand the central language spoken, it should be said that the vows have not been offered. If a borderland person offers vows to a central person using borderland language, and if the central person does not understand the borderland language spoken, it should be said that the vows have not been offered. If a central person offers vows to a borderland person using central language, and if the borderland person does not understand the central language spoken, it should be said that the vows have not been offered. If one offers vows to a sleeping person, one in meditative absorption, a god, an emanation, an animal, or an image, it should be said that the vows have not been offered. If a garrulous person offers vows to a garrulous person, it should be said that the vows have not been offered. If one has no intention of giving, desires the monastic life, does not wish to remain at home, and knows that people naturally abide, and does not recognize anyone, it should be said that the vows have not been offered. Therefore, it is said that the vows have not been offered. Regarding "not having broken the vows," there are those who have offered vows and have not broken them. There are those who have broken vows but have not offered them. There are those who have both broken vows and offered them. And there are those who have neither offered vows nor broken them. Among these, the case of having offered vows and not having broken them is as follows: wanting to become a monk, or being displeased, wanting to wander, not seeking the meaning of monastic life, or being lazy in monastic life, or being ill, or doubting, or slandering, or wanting to completely abandon monastic life, one goes to a monk and says: "Venerable one, please listen. I, named so-and-so, offer vows."

If one says they offer the precepts, it is said that they have offered the precepts. If one says they offer the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, it is said that they have offered the precepts. If one says they offer the Sutra Pitaka, Vinaya Pitaka, and Matrika (Tibetan, Sanskrit Devanagari, Sanskrit Roman transliteration, Chinese literal meaning), it is said that they have offered the precepts. If one says they offer the Khenpo and Acharya, it is said that they have offered the precepts. I, a householder, or a novice monk, or a eunuch, or a hermaphrodite, or a nun who has been expelled, or one who has killed their mother, or one who has killed their father, or one who has killed an Arhat, or one who has divided the Sangha, or one who has drawn blood from the Tathagata with malicious intent, or a heretic, or one who has joined a heretical sect, or one who lives by stealing, or one who exists in a different way, please accept that I should not exist in this place, or even say this, like me, it is enough to be with you who are in accordance with the Dharma, whose conduct is like Brahma, and whose practice is the same, if one says this, it is said that they have offered the precepts. In this way, one has offered the precepts and has not broken the precepts. How does one break the precepts without offering them? It is like this, a monk is greedy, or displeased, or wants to wander and does not like the conduct of a Shramana, or is lazy because of the conduct of a Shramana, or is weary, or hesitates, or slanders, or wants to completely abandon the conduct of a Shramana, so he goes to a monk and says this: Venerable ones, please know! It is difficult to practice Brahmacharya. One should be extremely secluded. It is difficult to be happy alone. It is difficult to comprehend living in residences, temples, forests, and foothills, and all remote places. Living alone in a temple is painful. I miss my parents, siblings, and children. Please let me learn crafts. Please find all my work. Please place me in good families. Like this, for greed, or displeasure, or wanting to wander and not liking the conduct of a Shramana, or being lazy because of the conduct of a Shramana, or being weary, or hesitating, or slandering, or wanting to completely abandon the conduct of a Shramana, the language, words, terms, sounds, expressions, and definite words, and the path of words, and the sound of words, and the actions of language, and all the expressions of language, whatever they are, should be spoken. Saying this: Venerable ones, please consider. My name is...
