I, he, having abandoned killing, refrains from killing. Having abandoned taking what is not given, having abandoned sexual misconduct, having abandoned false speech, having abandoned the place of heedlessness which is caused by intoxication with liquor and compounded intoxicants. He continues the faith inherited from his father, and in the well-spoken Dharma and Discipline, having shaved his hair and beard, having put on the ochre robes, with pure faith, goes forth from home to homelessness. Having gone forth in this way, he dwells alone in a secluded place, being careful, diligent, and self-controlled. When he dwells alone in a secluded place, being careful, diligent, and self-controlled, for what reason do those sons of good families shave their hair and beard, put on the ochre robes, and with pure faith, go forth from home to homelessness? That unsurpassed end of the Brahmacarya, in this very life, having realized and accomplished it with his own super-knowledge, he understands: Birth is exhausted, the Brahmacarya has been lived, what was to be done has been done, there is no further existence in this state. He is an Arhat, free from desire from the three realms, with a mind that is equal to a clod of dirt and gold, equal to the sky and the palm of the hand, like placing sandalwood, wisdom has broken out of the eggshell, having obtained wisdom and super-knowledge, and individual correct knowledge, turning his back on the gains and respects of existence and desire, he has become one to be worshipped, to be remembered, and to be spoken of by the gods, including the powerful ones and their retinues. Then, the venerable Seedling, having attained Arhatship and individually knowing the joy and happiness of liberation, at that time spoke the verses: Among all things, I have obtained a share, my father does not abandon me with wealth, I have completely understood, I have completely crossed the flood. At that time, the Blessed One was dwelling in front of a retinue of hundreds of thousands of monks, and for the sake of the hearers, he was teaching the Dharma of the liberation of the mind and the liberation of wisdom for the sake of detachment from desire. Hatred, for the sake of detachment from desire, and igno

In order to be free from desire, he teaches the Dharma of liberation of mind and liberation of wisdom. At that time, the son of Kalandaka, the venerable Bhadra-datta, was present in that assembly and was in harmony. O Blessed One, how, how does the Blessed One teach the Dharma of liberation of mind and liberation of wisdom in order to be free from desire, and in order to be free from hatred from desire, and in order to be free from ignorance from desire, he teaches the Dharma of liberation of mind and liberation of wisdom, in this way, the son of Kalandaka, the venerable Bhadra-datta, felt a little regret, felt very regret, felt extremely regret and sat down, and was full of regret, obtained regret and became silent. He became dejected, his shoulders drooped, his face was downcast, he had no confidence, and he sat with his mind depressed. Then, at another time, many monks wandered about begging for alms, and went to the place where the son of Kalandaka, the venerable Bhadra-datta, was, and after arriving, together with the son of Kalandaka, the venerable Bhadra-datta, they engaged in various talks that would manifest great joy and great satisfaction, and then sat down on one side. After sitting down on one side, many monks said this to the son of Kalandaka, the venerable Bhadra-datta: Venerable Bhadra-datta, in the past, when you saw monks who had suddenly arrived, you would greet them with friendly words and take their alms bowls, robes, staffs, water bottles, razors, pill spoons, oil pots, hats, shoes with buckles, and slippers. Now, when you see monks who have suddenly arrived, you feel a little regret, feel very regret, feel extremely regret and sit down, and are full of regret, obtain regret and become silent. You become dejected, your shoulders droop, your face is downcast, you have no confidence, and you sit with your mind depressed. Venerable Bhadra-datta, in this way, do you not have some physical harm or mental suffering? Venerable ones, I do not have any physical harm at present, but I do have mental suffering.
