Yes. It is still the same now, doing it without feeling it, without sensing it. Vinaya-vastu, Volume Ninety-Nine. Furthermore, listen to how doing this is not felt and not sensed. Monks, in the past, in the palace of the king of the Shibi country, there was a king named Shibi who was wealthy, prosperous, happy, had good harvests, was full of people, and had many people, so he was allowed to rule the kingdom. That king was also of good faith, had good intentions, engaged in benefiting himself and others, was compassionate, great, desired the Dharma, loved all beings, completely gave everything, completely bestowed everything, completely bestowed without attachment, and dwelt in great generosity. He was like this: there was nothing that he did not give to ascetics, Brahmins, beggars, the poor, and beggars preparing to travel. In particular, he gave to the sick. The king's daily conduct was to rise early in the morning, bow to both his parents, then look after the sick and sit for their needs. How many sick people were abandoned by all the doctors, had no hope of survival, and were clearly facing death, wandering here and there, and went to the palace of the king of the Shibi country. At that time, King Shibi was in the season of Soga, the flowering trees were blooming, and swans, cranes, peacocks, parrots, sparrows, and cuckoos were making sounds. He was surrounded by consorts and went to the pleasure garden of the dense forest. That sick person was also tormented by strong feelings, and unpleasantness arose in his mind, and the breath of his body was rushed. His eyes were filled with tears, and leaning on a cane, he slowly went to the king and bowed his head and said: Lord, please save me from this disease, please grant me life. Then, King Shibi heard the words of that sick person spoken slowly, word by word, in a compassionate voice, and with a mind moved by compassion, he immediately returned and said to the ministers: Wise ones, gather all the doctors who live in my country. They gathered all the doctors.

It was offered to the king. Then the king summoned that person and said: Wise men, diagnose this person. The doctors diagnosed and unanimously said: God, this person's medicine is rare. The king said: Wise men, summon all his doctors. They summoned all the doctors and offered them to the king. Then the king summoned that person and said: Wise men, diagnose this person. The doctors diagnosed and unanimously said: God, this person's medicine is rare. The king said: Wise men, what kind of medicine is it? The doctors said: God, if the blood of the firstborn male who has never been angry with anyone is mixed with dough, if it can be fed to him, this person will recover, otherwise it will not work. After hearing this, the king thought: Should I possess the power of the throne for others who are threatened by such suffering that I cannot quell? Do I still need such a life? Thinking this, the king began to examine his own lineage, and then said to his mother: Have I ever been angry with anyone before? She said: God, since the time you were held in my arms, I have never been angry with anyone, let alone you? Then he went to his mother and said: Mother, have I ever been angry with anyone before? She said: Child, since the time you entered my womb, I have never been angry with anyone, let alone you? The king thought: Now I have found the medicine, thinking this, he said to those doctors: Cut off the veins of five parts of my body. They said: God, we cannot harm your body with a knife for ordinary people. Bodhisattvas are proficient in craftsmanship and the field of action, so he himself cut off the veins of five parts of his body. After filling the container with blood, he mixed it with dough and fed it to him. After the king died, the concubine, young people, ministers, villagers, and citizens who loved him committed suicide by burning themselves. Crowds of people from various places also began to mock, for an ordinary person, actually...

What to say of abandoning my sentient beings, he did not even utter a harsh word. Then the king dispersed the crowd and, by that method, for six months cut the veins of the five limbs of his body, and after cutting them, he fed him with rice porridge. King Shibi's body became like a sieve, and his splendor completely disappeared. The gods of the Pure Abode thought: "This is the Bodhisattva of the Good Kalpa, if he completely weakens, it will not be good," so they restored his splendor to him day by day, and lived by it. When that person's disease was healed, King Shibi gave five excellent towns and was mainly revered in Varanasi. Everywhere it was proclaimed that King Shibi had cut the veins of the five limbs of his body, and had treated the patient with blood for so long, and that person had also recovered. Some sentient beings who were surprised gathered and asked that person: "Hey, inner minister, is it true that King Shibi has treated you for so long?" He replied: "What did he do for me? It's like bad blood, whether it's poured on the ground or given to others, what's so strange about it?" As soon as he said that, a fire broke out in his house, burning down his house and all his property. Monks, what do you think? The King Shibi of that time was me. The ungrateful person of that time was Devadatta, and he was ungrateful and unappreciative then, and he is ungrateful and unappreciative now. Furthermore, listen to how he is ungrateful and unappreciative. Monks, in the past, in a king's palace, a king had wealth, prosperity, happiness, good harvests, and was filled with people and many people, so he began to rule the country. At that time, he played, rejoiced, and enjoyed himself with his consort. When he was playing, rejoicing, and enjoying himself, the consort became pregnant, and when she was eight or nine months pregnant, she gave birth to a handsome, pleasing, and beautiful boy.
