She said, "Prince, if that is so, then kill him! There is nothing that one who seeks separate advantages will not do that is sinful." So she lured him with flowers and fruits, led him to a monastery, struck him with stones, and killed him. Monks, what do you think? At that time, the eldest son of the householder was this Devadatta. At that time, the youngest brother was myself. Even then, he was hostile to me. Even now, he is hostile to me. Furthermore, listen to how we became hostile. Monks, in the past, in a mountain valley, there lived a Brahmin who took a wife from the same caste. He would play with her, rejoice with her, and enjoy happiness together. As he played with her, rejoiced with her, and enjoyed happiness, the wife became pregnant, and after eight or nine months, she gave birth to a daughter who was beautiful, pleasing to the eye, and lovely. The Brahmin thought, "Who will come to my house today for alms?"
