Listen. Ananda, that entertainer who generates the mind of enlightenment will become a Pratyekabuddha named Drum Sound. This is his Dharma of generosity: Whoever has faith in me. Devadatta said to Ajatashatru: I have placed you on the throne, so you should also make me a Buddha. He said: The Blessed One's body is the color of gold, but at first there was no color of gold. He said: I can also transform into the color of gold. Having said this, he summoned a goldsmith and said: Cover my body with gold. He said: Noble one, what if you feel pain? He said: You cover it, and I will endure it. Then he anointed his body with oil called cancu and covered his body with gold foil, and he experienced unbearable pain, rough, unpleasant feelings. The monks asked Kokalika: Where is Devadatta? He said: In a certain direction, he is transforming into the color of gold. The monks went in that direction, and they heard him crying out, tormented by feelings of pain, and they went to see the Blessed One. The monks were in doubt, and they asked the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: Venerable one, look at Devadatta, who is seeking the color of gold and is experiencing unbearable pain, burning, rough, unpleasant feelings. The Blessed One said: Monks, not only is this the case now, but in the past he also suffered improper pain because he sought a golden hat, listen. Monks, in the past in the city of Varanasi there was a woman whose husband had gone on a long journey, and a crow made a pleasant sound in front of her, and she said: Crow, go away, crow, go away, if my husband returns safely, I will give you a golden hat. Soon after, her husband also returned safely. That crow stayed in front of her, making pleasant sounds, in order to get the golden hat, and then she gave it gold

A hat was given. He put on that hat and jumped around. Because of that golden hat, a crow cut off his head. The god recited: Meaningless and with a basis, wealth will eventually be destroyed. Whoever has gold on his head, the crow will seek to destroy. The Blessed One said: Monks, what do you think? The crow at that time was none other than this Devadatta. At that time, he suffered because it was not gold. Now, he is also experiencing unbearable suffering, feeling hot, rough, and unpleasant feelings, because he is pursuing the color of gold. Furthermore, Devadatta said to Ajatasatru: I will put you on the throne, and you make me a Buddha. He said: If the Blessed One's soles have the marks of a wheel, your soles do not have the marks of a wheel. He said: I will also have the marks of a wheel drawn on the soles of my feet. So he summoned the blacksmiths and said: Can you draw a wheel on the soles of my feet? They said: Noble one, if you can endure the pain. He said: I can endure it, do it! They thought: This person has power, if we draw it like this, he will kick us to death, there is such a place. So they had the wall pierced and said: Noble one, put both feet in this hole in the wall! As soon as he put both feet in the hole in the wall, the blacksmiths heated the wheel to the color of fire and burned his feet. He experienced unbearable suffering, feeling hot, rough, and unpleasant feelings. The monks asked Kokalika: Where is Devadatta? In a certain direction, he is drawing the marks of a wheel on the soles of his feet. The monks went in that direction, and they heard him crying out, tormented by the feeling of suffering, so they went before the Blessed One. The monks were in doubt, all doubts

All cutting off. I reported to the Buddha, the Bhagavan: Venerable Devadatta, because he sought the mark of the wheel on the soles of his feet, he experienced unbearable suffering, a feeling of intense heat and unpleasantness. The Bhagavan said: Monks, not only is this the case now, but in the past, this person suffered unrighteously because of footprints. Listen! Monks, in the past, there was an elephant in the snowy mountains (referring to the Himalayan region) who went down to drink water, and a fox followed him. The fox saw the elephant's footprints and began to measure them with its own feet, thinking: These footprints are mine. So he jumped and rejoiced, lifting his foot to step on the elephant's footprints, but unexpectedly stepped on a dead infant. Then the god said in verse: In short, the elephant's footprints and your foolish footprints are not similar. It is useless to have this delusion, and you only bring suffering upon yourself. Monks, what do you think? The fox at that time was this Devadatta. At that time, this person suffered unrighteously because of footprints. Now, this person is also experiencing unbearable, intense, and unpleasant feelings because he seeks the mark of the wheel on the soles of his feet. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was staying in Rajagriha on Vulture Peak Mountain, at the place of the Yaksha Kuvira. Devadatta again said to King Ajatashatru: If I place you on the throne, you cannot make me a Buddha. Now I will put the Shramana Gautama to death, and you should not say who killed him or where he was killed. King Ajatashatru said: Do so. Soon, a wheel treasure magician came from the south. Devadatta summoned him and said: Hey, magician, can you create a stone projectile that can only be thrown by five hundred people? The magician said: Holy one, I can. Devadatta gave him a pearl necklace worth hundreds of thousands and also gave the wages of a thousand people, saying: Where the Bhagavan is staying, on the opposite side of Vulture
