At that time, the ministers, having seen them, said to the king: "O god, your leaders, the dark-skinned one and the one with nets, these two are extremely wicked Brahmins, doing business in this excellent city." Having heard these words, the king was displeased and said: "Quickly bring those two youths here!" The ministers shouted, and the people of the city quickly came before the king. Then, another minister led the king's nephew to the king's presence. The lord of men, seeing his nephew led before him without clothes and with a body covered in dirt, immediately fell from the lion throne to the ground, and the entire palace, attendants, ministers, and women fainted. Then, the king said to the ministers: "Whoever dwells in the forest, with a mind greatly delighting in giving, and with beautiful eyes, quickly bring her here with her wife." Then, Indra, the lord of the gods, paid homage to the Bodhisattva and returned to his abode. The next day, the friend of the king, who gave everything away, passed away. The Brahmin, the ministers, the townspeople, and the villagers went together to that hermitage and prayed to the Bodhisattva, inviting him to their city and installing him as king. Then, he became known as the king "All-Liberating, All-Giving." He gave various kinds of gifts to monks, Brahmins, the poor, the destitute, friends, relatives, kinsmen, and those who lived on leftovers, and spoke in verses: "Those who strive for enlightenment, to the royal caste, Brahmins, Vaishyas, and, Shudras, Chandalas, and servants, give fearlessly. Gold and silver, cows and, horses and jeweled earrings, and slaves who do various works, are given to those who are perfectly disciplined. With a mind without attachment, having completely given away sons and wives, in this world and the next, people will attain purity. When the friend of the king, who gave everything away, gave much wealth to the Brahmin Jūjuka for the sake of liberating all, his wealth became very great, and he cherished him greatly."

Relatives, subordinates, and friends came and said: "Whatever wealth, glory, and perfect fortune you have, all of that is due to the youth 'All Savior'." He said: "What has the youth 'All Savior' done for me? I was born into a noble lineage, therefore I have become a place of offering in the world, therefore I have become fortunate." The Blessed One said: "Monks, what do you think? The youth 'All Savior' at that time was myself. The Jūjuka at that time was this very Devadatta. Even then, he was ungrateful and unappreciative. Even now, he is ungrateful and unappreciative. Therefore, monks, you should train yourselves in this way: You should be grateful and appreciative. Even a small favor should not be wasted, let alone a large one. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way." The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Rajagriha (near Patna, Bihar today), in the Bamboo Grove, the Garden of Splendor, the place of the Kalandaka birds. At that time, in the country of Champa (Bhagalpur, India today), there lived a householder named Boatman, who was wealthy, had much property, great enjoyment, was widely possessed, spacious and vast. He possessed the wealth of Vaishravana, competing with Vaishravana in wealth. He took a wife from the same lineage, and then he and she played together, rejoiced, and indulged in pleasure. As he played, rejoiced, and indulged in pleasure, at another time, the wife became pregnant. In order to fully ripen her womb, she did not hear even a slightly unpleasant sound, and when it was cold, there were cold-weather implements, and when it was warm, there were warm-weather implements, and food accompanied by doctors, not too bitter, not too sour, not too salty, not too sweet, not too spicy, and not too astringent. Thus, she was served with food that avoided bitter, sour, salty, sweet, spicy, and astringent tastes, and adorned her body with necklaces and mother-of-pearl, rejoicing like a goddess.
