It became like that. The monks became doubtful and, in order to dispel all doubts, reported to the Buddha Shakyamuni: "Venerable, Devadatta has fallen from his magical powers due to his misconduct, please observe." The Blessed One said: "Monks, it is not only now that this is the case, but also in the past he fell from the knowledge-mantra due to his misconduct, listen to this. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there was a king named Brahma-datta, from 'wealth' to 'people,' who was fully supported by many people and ruled the kingdom. There was a Candala who held knowledge-mantras and secret mantras, and was skilled in knowledge-mantras and secret mantras. He practiced the knowledge-mantra of holding the earth, and by means of magical powers, he took untimely and out-of-season flowers and fruits from the fragrant slopes of the mountain of incense, and offered them to King Brahma-datta. King Brahma-datta was very pleased with this and gave him rewards. At that time, a Brahmin boy, eager to learn secret mantras, searched everywhere for secret mantras, and after hearing about them from the lineage, he came from his homeland to Varanasi. After resting from the fatigue of the journey, he went to the Candala who held knowledge-mantras and secret mantras, and upon arriving, said: 'Master, I wish to offer you service.' 'For what?' 'For the knowledge-mantra.' He said in verse: 'The knowledge-mantra is not given to anyone, the knowledge-mantra will perish with me.' Again, he went to that knowledge-mantra Candala, and upon arriving, said: 'Master, I wish to offer you service.' 'For what?' 'For the knowledge-mantra.' He said in verse: 'The knowledge-mantra is not given to anyone, the knowledge-mantra will perish with me.' 'Or, the knowledge-mantra can be given with wisdom and service, and with wealth.' He said: 'Master, if that is the case, how long should we serve you?' He said: 'If you serve for twelve years, it will definitely be given or not given.' Because he was very eager for the knowledge-mantra, he agreed. Then, he took it upon himself to please him, and respectfully began to serve him. After some time, that Candala became drunk with alcohol and fell down in his house.

He came. The Brahmin boy thought: This Khenpo is not suitable, I will make him drunk with alcohol and sleep here. After a while, the Chandala started to turn over in bed, and the Brahmin boy heard the sound of him turning over and the bed board breaking, and woke up, thinking: The Khenpo will be sleeping in pain, the bed attendant will be leaning against the bed board. So he leaned against the bed board and sat. This is the rule, among the drunkards, whoever is stronger will be the first to sober up. That person, due to the force of vomiting, vomited the alcohol on the Brahmin boy's back. He thought: If I move my body or make a sound, the Khenpo will hear it and wake up, and will not fall asleep again, where is such a place? So he endured and sat. After a while, that Chandala himself woke up, saw that disgusting appearance, and then asked: Who is this? He said: Khenpo, I am Auspicious Moon. Child, what are you doing sitting like this? He told all that had happened, and that person was even more pleased and said: Child, I am very happy, go and take a bath and come, and I will give you a knowledge mantra. After he took a bath and came back, that person gave him the knowledge mantra. Brahmins are all reckless people, he did not make a mistake, thinking: For the time being, I will master this mantra, and then go somewhere else. So he recited the knowledge mantra, then flew into the sky, quickly went to the top of Mount Incense, picked untimely flowers and fruits, and then came back and offered them to the king's attendant. The attendant then offered them to King Brahma-dana. The king said: Where did you get these from? He said: A Brahmin boy came from a distant place, and he gave these to me. He is particularly proficient in knowledge mantras and secret mantras, and is a Brahmin with few desires. What is the use of this Chandala who is despised by the world? Please kill his life and give the power to this Brahmin boy. The king said: Do it that way. Then, the attendant cut off the Chandala's life and gave the power to that Brahmin boy. The person who did this...
