Having gone, those who were competing with the king for life said to the king: O God, we are hungry, please sustain us with borrowed food. The king summoned the ministers and said: O wise ones, satisfy these Brahmins with the alms of food. They said: We desire meat and blood. The king said to the ministers: O wise ones, if there is no wealth of meat and blood, give blood obtained lawfully from the market. They said: O God, we desire meat and blood that is killed immediately, please sustain us with meat and blood that is killed immediately. The king thought: If meat and blood that is killed immediately cannot be obtained without harming others, I will give my own blood to these people in any case. Then he summoned the physicians and said: O wise ones, cut all the veins of my limbs, and satisfy the beggars. The physicians said: O God, for the sake of ordinary people, we will not strike the body of a god with a sword. The Bodhisattva was skilled in the arts and sciences, and therefore he himself cut the five parts of his body with a sword. Then, having satisfied them with hot blood, he taught them such Dharma. Having heard that, those Yakshas were established on the basis of the five vows. Monks, what do you think? The king at that time, who was called Vajra-bahu (Diamond Arm), was none other than myself. Those five Yakshas who robbed the radiance were none other than these five groups of monks. Even then, I satisfied them with my own blood and established them on the basis of the five vows. Now also, I have satisfied them with the taste of the sacred Dharma, and having led them out of the wilderness of samsara, I have established them in the ultimate attainment and the bliss of Nirvana. When the Blessed One satisfied the five groups of monks with the taste of the sacred Dharma, and having led them out of the wilderness of samsara, established them in the ultimate attainment and the bliss of Nirvana, the monks arose with doubts. To cut off all doubts, the Buddha, the Blessed One.

Asked the Bhagavan, "Venerable Bhagavan, please behold how the Blessed One has satisfied the five groups of monks with the nectar of the holy Dharma, liberated them from the wilderness of samsara, and placed them in the ultimate attainment and blissful nirvana." The Blessed One said, "Thus, now I am free from attachment, free from hatred, and free from delusion," from "having obtained mastery over all wisdom and knowledge" to "having satisfied the five groups of monks with the nectar of the holy Dharma, liberated them from the wilderness of samsara, and placed them in the ultimate attainment and blissful nirvana," what is so amazing about that? In the past, from "being attached" to "not being completely liberated from suffering, displeasure, and strife," as before. Listen to what it is that these satisfy their own part and place them on the basis of the five ascetic practices. Monks, in the past In the city of Varanasi, there was a king named Loving Strength (Byams pa'i stobs), from "wealth" to "allowing many people to rule the kingdom," as before. He was one who had a loving nature, was compassionate, a great lord, and was full of love for all beings. At some other time, King Vaishravana expelled five splendor-stealing yakshas from the king's willow palace because they had committed some offenses. They wandered from that place and went to Varanasi, and no one gave them offerings of tormas, garlands, and utensils. They became angry and spread a plague, causing the people of Varanasi to die. The ministers said to King Loving Strength, "O god, the people of Varanasi are all dead." The king admonished them, "Today, let it be proclaimed in Varanasi itself, O wise ones, King Loving Strength has declared, 'I am particularly devoted to the thought of benefiting all beings, even at the cost of my life. Therefore, you should also remember the love that follows all beings, and in that way the plague will be pacified.'
