At another time, King Tsangsbyin died and Thabmo Kye was installed as king. He ruled the kingdom with both Dharma and non-Dharma. The Sage Forbearance Speaker said: Abbot, my body is nourished by food and drink, and the monastery's medicine is of no use to me, so I will go to live outside the village. He said: Son, it is fine whether you live in the village or the monastery. Sages should protect their senses. Go to the vicinity of Varanasi, make a hut of leaves and branches, and live there. Having received permission from the Abbot, he went to Varanasi. Wandering around in search of a quiet place, he gradually went to his father's garden. He looked for a place to stay there, saw a quiet place, and stayed there. After some time, when King Thabmo Kye arrived at the Soga season, the dense forest was filled with flowering trees, and swans, cranes, peacocks, parrots, squirrels, cuckoos, and wagtails were all singing. He entered the garden with his consorts, enjoyed the pleasure there, and fell asleep when he became tired. The women, who loved flowers and fruits, began to wander around the garden. Soon, they saw the Sage Forbearance Speaker sitting alone in a quiet manner. Seeing him, they developed the mind to regard him as a guru, prostrated to the sage, circumambulated him, and then sat down. Seeing the women, the Sage Forbearance Speaker began to teach the Dharma with even greater tranquility. Soon, King Thabmo Kye awoke from his sleep, but did not see the women of his consort's retinue. He took up his sword and began to search for the women of his consort's retinue. Soon, he saw the Sage Forbearance Speaker surrounded by the women. Seeing this, he became jealous and approached the sage with an angry mind. The consorts, seeing his angry state, became frightened and scattered. The arrogant king said to the Forbearance Speaker: Hey, you eunuch, who are you? The sage said: Forbearance.

He is the speaker of patience. King Fighting Born said: "I also claim to be patient in battle. Now I shall know whether you are the speaker of patience or not." Saying this, he cut off both of his hands and asked again: "Who are you?" He said: "I am the speaker of patience." He cut off his feet and also his limbs and extremities. Then he spoke in verse: "If my body is cut into pieces as small as sesame seeds, and my body is cut into hundreds of pieces and scattered on the ground, I will not abandon patience. Because I have always practiced the good heart of loving-kindness, I am not willing to give up that patience for beings like beloved children." Thus, after eliminating the feeling with such a melody of verses, he began to make a vow: "Just as this king, with a mind attached to afflictions, repeatedly wounded me and cut off my limbs and extremities, may this root of virtue, with which I am united with patience and endurance, destroy my own aggregates of afflictions, and when I attain the unexcelled, perfectly complete enlightenment, may I repeatedly cut and cleave with the sword of wisdom, and may I first cut off his afflictions." Then, whatever god had great faith in the speaker of patience thought: "This sinful king has separated and abandoned this innocent and harmless ascetic's feet and hands. I must harm him in some way." Having realized this, the wrathful deity, completely enveloped in anger, stood before the speaker of patience and said in verse: "Fighting Born, together with sons and daughters, the assembly of relatives, cities, lands, and all living beings in the world, I will turn them into ashes. Please command me!" He again said in verse: "Whoever has separated my body, hands, feet, and nose, and has done this unpleasant thing, I do not desire even a little sin for him. What need is there to speak of innocent beings?" Then, whatever god of Varanasi sent plagues, mice, gravel, and parrots, and the gods did not send rain, so the assemblies of beings died. The king summoned the diviners and said: "Wise ones, why do the gods not send rain?

arrived, and the mice, gravel, and parrots became very numerous, and the crowds of people also died. They said: The god who has great faith in the god and the sage who speaks of forbearance, which god is extremely angry? Because he is angry, he sent this plague. The king said: Wise ones, what should be done about this? The diviners said: The angry god will be pleased with the god's torma, garlands, and offerings, so prepare the torma, garlands, and offerings, and ask the god and the sage for forgiveness. Then the king had an announcement made in Varanasi: Listen, wise ones, who live in the city of Varanasi! The god who lives in the garden and has great faith in the sage who speaks of forbearance has sent a plague, and he does not rain, and the mice, gravel, and parrots have become very numerous, and the crowds of people have also died. In order to pacify this plague, you should prepare torma, garlands, and offerings tomorrow and go to that garden to make offerings! From that night on, the people prepared torma, garlands, and offerings and went to the garden together with the king and queen. Then the great crowd of people, relying on that god, gave alms to monks, Brahmins, beggars, and the poor, and made great offerings at the god's place, and also asked that god for forgiveness. Then the king went to the sage who speaks of forbearance, touched his feet, and began to ask for forgiveness: Great sage, because I am too attached to a certain place, I have offended you with my foolish mind completely entangled in anger, please forgive me! The Forbearer said: Great king, I forgive you. Who knows? He said in verse: Even when my body is pierced by a sword, I am still loving to all beings. If you do not believe me, look at the blood that flows from me. He showed the king, the evil-doer, the miracle of the blood turning into drops of milk, but he still did not believe.
