Then why doesn't he understand in his heart? He said: If that is so, I will give you the youngest of all my sons. He accepted it. After some time, that householder died, and when his sons were fighting with some people, they would scold him, saying: You who shave the hair of others, are you also fighting? They became unhappy and thought: Whatever insults we suffer are all because of this younger brother, we must take him away, so they took him away. The barber was angry, and he ordered all the barbers: No one shall shave the beards of so-and-so householder's people. When their hair, beards, and nails grew long, the king saw them and said: Wise men, why are your hair, beards, and nails so long? They said: O god, this barber has forbidden all the barbers to shave their beards. Why? They told what had happened, and the king said: If the father gave the son, why did you take him back? Give him back! They reluctantly gave him back. They were unhappy, and fearing the criticism of the world, they wanted to kill him. Because the world has those who like, dislike, and are neutral, others persuaded him, and he said to the barber: Please allow me to be killed by them, and I will become a renunciate. He thought: Renunciation is better than being killed by them, so he said: Child, if that is so, go and become a renunciate! When you have gained some accumulation of qualities, tell me. Having obtained permission, he became a renunciate among the ascetics. Without a Khenpo or Acharya, he realized perfect enlightenment on his own, and then he thought: I should go and fulfill the vow I made to my father before, so he went to him, (showing) burning, shining, raining, and lightning.

Started to perform those wondrous illusions. Because ordinary people quickly put their faith in illusions, like cutting off the roots of a tree, he prostrated on both feet and began to make aspirations. "By this root of virtue, whatever I have done for such a sublime field of merit, may I become the king's executioner." Furthermore, he made offerings to five hundred Pratyekabuddhas and then made the aspiration, "By this root of virtue, may I become the king's executioner." Furthermore, he made offerings to four Samyaksaṃbuddhas and then made the aspiration, "By this root of virtue, may I become the king's executioner." Due to the maturation of that action of making aspirations, he became the king's executioner many times. Then, the monks arose with doubts, and in order to cut off all doubts, they asked the Blessed One Buddha. The venerable Ānanda asked: "Lord, what kind of action did he do, that by the maturation of that action, he is regarded as the foremost by the upholders of the Vinaya?" The Blessed One replied: "It is precisely because of making aspirations." Ānanda asked: "Where did he make the aspirations?" The Buddha said: "Monk, in the past, in this very Fortunate Aeon, when the lifespan of beings was twenty thousand years, a Samyaksaṃbuddha named Light appeared in the world." From "He relied near the city of Vārāṇasī and resided in the Deer Park spoken of by the sages" and so on, it is as before. In his teachings, this one became ordained. That ordained monk was regarded by the Samyaksaṃbuddha Light as the foremost of the upholders of the Vinaya. During that time, he practiced celibacy for as long as he lived, but did not attain any accumulation of qualities. Then, when he was about to die, he made the aspiration: "I have practiced celibacy for as long as I lived under the Samyaksaṃbuddha Bhagavan Light, but have not attained any accumulation of qualities. By this root of virtue, when the Samyaksaṃbuddha Bhagavan Light says to the Brahmin boy named Superior, 'Brahmin boy, when the lifespan of beings is one hundred years, the Tathāgata, Arhat, Samyaksaṃbuddha...'

It was prophesied that he would become the Buddha Shakyamuni. I took refuge in his teachings, abandoned all defilements, and attained the Arhatship. Just as my Khenpo, the perfectly complete Buddha Light Increase, was regarded as the best of the Vinaya holders, may I also be regarded by the Blessed One Shakyamuni Buddha as the best of the Vinaya holders. Due to the power of this aspiration, the Tathagata is now regarded as the best of the Vinaya holders. Monks, therefore, from "the ripening of purely black deeds is purely black," one should strive. Monks, you should train in this way, up to "you should train in this way," just as before. When the Blessed One subdued thirty-six kotis of Maras and their retinues and attained unsurpassed wisdom, the gods of the Mara realm announced in the city of Kapilavastu (ser skya): "The Shramana Gautama has died today!" Then, King Suddhodana and the queen, the prince, the ministers, the citizens, and the villagers all began to mourn. Since the knowledge and vision of the gods were inferior, the gods of the Pure Abode said: "The Blessed One has not erred! For the Blessed One has attained unsurpassed wisdom!" Then, King Suddhodana was very happy, and when he was happy, a son of nectar food was born. A grand birth celebration was held, and they considered what name to give the child. The relatives said: "This child was born when there was joy, so let the child be named Ananda (kun dga' bo)." Thus, his name was named Ananda. The child Ananda was entrusted to eight mothers, two mothers who nurtured him on their laps, two mothers who nursed him, two mothers who cleaned his dirt, and two mothers who were playmates. When he was growing up on his mother's lap, the soothsayers said: "This child will serve the Blessed One Shakyamuni Buddha."
